The Future of Land and Housing (FLH) Program at New America seeks qualified applicants with a strong interest in U.S. housing, land, and property rights for our paid summer internship. This role is an excellent stepping stone and a fantastic opportunity to gain a broad range of experience relevant to working in the fields of housing and land use in a supportive, creative, and collaborative environment.
The selected applicant will be an integral part of the FLH team and will conduct research, writing, and analytic support for New America’s domestic housing and land policy portfolio. This includes, but is not limited to, research and convening related to affordable housing and homeownership, home repair and rehabilitation, network building support for our Great Lakes Receiving Network initiative, and other housing policy topics.
The selected intern will have an opportunity to be part of the fast-paced and dynamic FLH team, and assist with research (quantitative and qualitative), writing (e.g., blogs, articles for the press, as well as policy papers), event support, and general administrative duties. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, with excellent writing, research and data analysis skills, has the ability to work quickly and multi-task, has experience and passion in policy and possesses some prior understanding of land and housing issues.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the FLH team with quantitative or qualitative research, analysis and convening in housing policy areas
- Produce blog posts, articles, and written communication products on housing, land, and property rights
- Attend meetings and conferences that contribute to the development of FLH’s areas of interest
- Provide support for events and presentations
- General administrative duties as needed
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours a week) remotely
Qualifications:
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated experience in public policy, with housing or land use policy preferred
- Experience in communications is a plus
- Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on the job
- Self-starter who can work quickly and multi-task
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills and time management
- Ability to work independently and part of a team
- Commitment to racial equity in housing and land use
Education Requirements: A recent or current graduate student with a major relevant to FLH, including, but not limited to, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Sociology, or a related field.
Hourly rate: $20.00
Location: Remote
