Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Paralegal Contractor to support our legal and programmatic work on a project basis. Although the ideal candidate has experience in legal research, document preparation, and case management, candidates who are quick-learners and are capable of problem solving managerial tasks will be highly preferred. This is a contract role, compensated hourly, with flexible scheduling based on project needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- File Management: Organize and maintain client files.
- Document Collection: Communicating with clients to collect evidence requested by the attorney.
- Calendar Support: Communicate with ICE detention centers to schedule visits/calls for the attorney and ensure these are reflected on the attorney’s calendar.
- Legal Filing Support: Collect bio data necessary to complete immigration forms and court filings.
- Legal support: Prepare materials for court hearings and applications before DHS.
- Legal research: Conduct legal research and summarize findings related to immigration or education.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to legal and ethical standards in handling sensitive information.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher; Paralegal Certificate preferred.
- Experience in a paralegal or legal assistant role.
- Strong understanding of document formatting and research tools.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and legal databases.
- Experience working with nonprofit, education, or immigration-related matters is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Compensation and Terms:
- Hourly rate: $31.25
- Contractor status: This is not an employee role; contractors are responsible for their own taxes, equipment, and insurance.
- Flexible schedule based on project scope and availability.
