Company & Mission Overview:
Our mission: We exist to connect climate and financial risk.
Who we are: First Street is the standard for Climate Risk Financial Modeling. For over a decade, we’ve been translating climate risk into decision-useful financial outcomes for investors, businesses, communities, and property owners worldwide. With backing from world-class firms, including Innovation Endeavors, Galvanize, General Catalyst, and others, our team has raised millions to change how the global economy thinks about climate change.

Our data: We’ve assembled leading climate scientists and economists to develop transparent, peer-reviewed methodologies to calculate the past, present, and future climate risk for properties and asset classes spanning real estate, infrastructure, and companies. Using physics-based deterministic models, we predict the likelihood of floods, wildfires, hurricanes, and other hazards at any location on Earth, along with associated damage and downtime.
Our customers: We aim to incorporate climate risk data into every financial decision made today. We are relied on every day by:
Institutional investors like Norges Bank Investment Management and Blackstone.
Banking enterprises, including Bank of America and Fifth Third.
Government bodies ranging from Fannie Mae to the US State of Connecticut.
Millions of everyday users on Zillow, Redfin, Realtor.com, Homes.com, and more.
Come join us and use your talents to change the world.
Team Role & Overview
We’re hiring a Sr. DevOps Engineer to take ownership of responsibilities that have historically been shared across engineering. You won’t be “building from zero” - we already have systems in place - but you will bring a high level of ownership over all aspects of your technical practice: smoother deployments, stronger reliability, clearer observability, tighter identity/access controls, and a more repeatable infrastructure foundation.
What you’ll do:
Over your first year, success looks like measurable improvements across:
Reducing deployment pain: make releases simpler, safer, and faster through better automation, consistent environments, and strong CI/CD practices.
Improving observability and on-call: strengthen monitoring, alert quality, and incident response so on-call is humane and effective
Formalizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC): drive repeatability and change control for infrastructure and platform configuration. Why? We are quickly scaling to global, multi-region infrastructure.
Cost controls: introduce practical FinOps hygiene (visibility, ownership, guardrails, right-sizing).
Compute environments: own and evolve our platform across AWS and on-prem compute environments (you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with our High Performance Compute team).
On-call quality: reduce noisy alerts, define SLOs/SLIs where useful, and strengthen incident response practices (runbooks, postmortems, follow-ups).
Operational workflows: Lead efforts to standardize operational workflows and reduce “institutional knowledge” dependencies across the team.
What you’ll need:
Strong hands-on DevOps/platform ownership experience, ideally having been the primary owner) in a prior role.
Deep comfort operating production public cloud systems: debugging, incident response, performance triage, and operational discipline.
Practical experience improving CI/CD and deployment reliability.
Fluency with cloud infrastructure (AWS strongly preferred) and containerized workloads (Kubernetes experience strongly preferred).
Security-minded approach, especially around identity and access management and SSO/SAML concepts.
Ability to work independently with minimal hand-holding, while collaborating effectively across engineering.
Nice-to-have:
Designing/implementing IaC at scale (Terraform/Pulumi/CloudFormation—whatever you’ve used, we care about principles and outcomes).
Compliance experience: SOC 2 evidence/control implementation and/or ISO 27001 familiarity.
Cost optimization and operational metrics (FinOps, capacity planning).
Experience in finance-related environments or other regulated B2B contexts.
Our anticipated US base salary compensation range for this role is $100,000-180,000 plus stock options and a competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.
