Acquaint is a nonprofit peacebuilding organization that works to heal divisions and prevent conflict. Enthusiastic volunteers from 45+ countries connect on our website for one-on-one conversations to share culture and perspectives.Interactions on Acquaint are made easier and more fun by a series of virtual icebreakers. By listening and sharing with one another, we work to build peace and global solidarity. This is "cultural networking" and it has the power to gradually erode barriers of prejudice and misunderstanding that divide humanity. Each week, volunteers enter their availability on the platform and are paired for sessions based on their time. Pairings are random. Volunteers could end up talking to someone right down the street or on the other side of the world. Either way, there is much they can learn from each other! We are looking for an *experienced* software engineer to assist with the development of our volunteer-driven global cultural exchange. Our goal is to meaningfully connect people at the grassroots to overcome hate and divisions. Currently we have volunteers from around 90 countries, and we are constantly evolving. We believe that Acquaint may be the most efficient way in the world to meaningfully connect with and learn from people due to our unique dialogue/cultural exchange model and conversation enhancing software. As a software developer with Acquaint, you will work directly with the CTO to build software features that will be immediately used by our core team and volunteers. Our backlog of features and updates takes a wide variety of sizes and shapes depending on what you'd prefer to work on or learn. Our stack/frameworks include React, Rails, Twilio, AWS, Terraform, and WebXR.We are looking for software developers with experience on Ruby on Rails Experience or experience with React/front end development. While we typically aren't able to accept volunteers without the described RoR or Javascript experience, we may consider internships or mentorships with a significant time commitment (e.g., 20 hours per week for several months). If you're looking for a challenge, want to grow your software dev skills, or just want to contribute towards global solidarity this could be a great fit! This is a volunteer opportunity provided by VolunteerMatch, in partnership with LinkedIn for Good.
