Worldreader gets families reading through our award-winning app, BookSmart. It’s an equitable, subscription-free, and often data-free app that helps families prepare young children for learning by fostering reading routines with culturally representative storybooks and play-based activities. Since 2010, we’ve delivered 80+ million digital books and reached 22+ million readers in 100 countries, giving young children around the world the pre-literacy and social-emotional skills they need to be ready to start school and succeed in the future.
Overview
We are seeking a programs intern to support the planning, execution, and evaluation of various programs and projects within our organization. This role is ideal for a motivated individual seeking hands-on experience in program coordination, stakeholder engagement, and impact assessment. The programs intern will collaborate closely with the programs team and contribute to meaningful projects that advance our mission.
This is an unpaid hybrid internship based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Scope of Work
- Perform administrative support tasks (e.g., printing, photocopying, entering and updating records, etc.).
- Conduct phone and e-mail correspondence with implementing partners as requested.
- Research and create support materials, and document program processes under the manager's supervision.
- Coordinate with the regional communications team to collect, document, and disburse impact stories.
- Support the programs team with intervention activities.
- Participate in developing forecasts, work plans, and reports.
- Collaborate with organizational staff on events and projects as needed.
Time Frame
June 10 - October 9, 2026
Up to 15 hours per week
Deliverable
Submit a final report and presentation culminating your experience in front of Worldreader staff at the end of your internship.
Desired Qualifications
- Must be a Kenyan resident and an undergraduate currently enrolled at a 4-year university, or a postgraduate studying Project Management, International Development, Community Development, or a related field.
- Must work from the Kenya office at least once per week.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment.
- Hands-on and solution-oriented with a willingness to learn.
- Must have own computer and reliable internet connection.
- Commitment to the time frame.
