Worldreader is a global ed-tech organization dedicated to improving literacy and learning outcomes for young children. With a mission to open up endless possibilities to children through reading and captivating activities, we reach families in more than 100 countries with content that encourages family-centered reading experiences. Together, we can inspire a new generation of confident and smart children wherever they may be.
Overview
As a design intern, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the visual and interactive experience of our children's digital library by updating book covers, creating animations, and supporting multimedia initiatives. Your creative contributions will significantly improve and impact how children and families interact with our platform, ensuring that our library is not only engaging and accessible, but also joyful and inviting for diverse readers.
This is an unpaid remote internship based in the US.
Scope of Work
Book Cover Updates
- Update children's book covers to align with our application specifications.
- Apply consistent sizing and design elements across the application.
Micro-animations & Other Collateral for BookSmart
- Develop Lottie animations of our reading buddy, Sprouty, to add to the BookSmart UI.
- Create compositions and collateral using Sprouty, such as a “wardrobe” of different outfits and accessories.
Audiobook Presentation for YouTube
- Support the development of a visual template or lightweight video format to pair with audio for potential YouTube publishing.
- Explore creative ways to make audiobook content visually appealing and accessible while aligning with our brand tone and values.
Inclusive & Engaging Design
- Help develop design solutions that are accessible, joyful, and appealing to young readers and their caregivers.
Time Frame
From June 11 to October 10, 2025, up to 15 hours per week.
Deliverable
Submit a final report and/or presentation culminating your experience in front of Worldreader staff at the end of the internship.
Desired Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program based in the US.
- Majoring in Graphic Design, Digital Media, or a related field preferred.
- Must have own computer, reliable internet connection, and workspace.
- Experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), Canva, Figma, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with basic animation tools or platforms like LottieFiles.
- Keen attention to detail and a good eye for layout, color, and typography.
- Strong research skills to gather and verify information.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting ideas and receiving feedback.
- Ability to design with young children and families in mind, prioritizing clarity, joy, and accessibility.
- Capable of working effectively in a remote, collaborative environment.
- Interest in diverse and inclusive design practices.
- Comfortable working with multilingual content (Spanish, Arabic, or Hindi) is a plus, but not required.
- Commitment to project time frame.
