Why We’re Hiring an Email Associate
We’ve shown an impressive ability to connect with everyday Americans on issues that can impact their lives and how their choices can result in getting more money in their pockets. We’ve done that with an incredibly lean team, and mostly over SMS. Now we’re focusing on building out our email program and have an exciting role open for someone ready to jump in and learn the ins and outs of growing and continuously improving an existing email program. The Email Associate will play a crucial role in coordinating day-to-day email operations, writing first drafts on emails, and tracking and analyzing how our messages perform. The right candidate would help take our email program to a whole new level of performance.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
As an Email Associate you would be responsible for building and executing messaging for various campaigns and initiatives. Not only would you be sending messages, but you’d be the point person who keeps track of email messaging performance. This means spending regular time in Klaviyo (our email CRM), querying lists, reviewing performance, and monitoring deliverability, all with an eye towards learning what our community wants and how we can optimize our email communications strategy. You will also be responsible for working in Drupal to build landing pages for all of our email campaigns.
In the first three months, we expect the Email Associate to quickly learn the operations components of our email work, ensuring messages are sent on time, with minimal errors, and regularly reporting on the performance of those messages. More specifically:
- Email Execution
- Build, send, QA and schedule multiple email messages in Klaviyo and landing pages in Drupal for a variety of campaigns
- Collaborate within the Digital Engagement team and across teams to ensure data and messaging plans have been accurately documented and communicated
- Data & Reporting
- Regular analysis of email performance, across individual campaigns as well as any active automated flows
- Complete weekly messaging performance reports
- Present regularly on messaging performance, flagging any irregularities and making recommendations for ways we can improve operationally or from a content perspective
- Manage data requests
Once you become well versed in the operations and data reporting components, we expect the right candidate to lean into creative tasks and/or strengthen their program analysis skills. Growing in this role could look like taking on any of the below responsibilities:
- Pitch and draft messages for campaigns
- Contribute to larger calendar planning
- Propose a/b tests and tactical optimizations to boost engagement rates
- Surface upward or downward trends and high or underperforming content
- Propose new ways to efficiently and effectively communicate with members in timely ways
- Compile org-wide reports on data, message replies, and trends
What You’ll Need to be Successful
We are looking for a results-driven, creative, and collaborative marketer who is passionate about content strategy, storytelling, and customer-centricity.
Required Qualifications
- 1-3 years experience in managing, creating, and/or executing digital campaigns
- Ability to be flexible and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with shifting priorities
- At least 1 year of experience with project management or similar position with demonstrated track record of meeting deadlines and communicating anticipated barriers to meeting deadlines
- Experience writing and sending emails, and managing lists within an email CRM like Klaviyo, SendGrid, Mailchimp, etc.
- Demonstrable curiosity for understanding why some pieces of digital content perform better than others
- Experience operating in an environment where you had to proactively seek out answers and propose solutions to peers and supervisors
- Multitasker who is up for juggling priorities and keeping all stakeholders on task
- Track record of excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work collaboratively with other team members and across functions to achieve shared goals
- Freakishly attentive to detail
Nice to Haves
- Experience with basic data and analytics such as A/B testing, making spreadsheets, and general quantitative reporting
- Experience working on a campaign or in a fast-paced, campaign-like environment
- Belief that politicians should be focused more on the economic needs of everyday Americans
This is a union position subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement with IBEW Local 89. The salary for this role is $65,000 annually and as part of our commitment to pay transparency and equity in our organization, the starting salary for this position is not negotiable.
