Main Functional Role

The Quantitative Data Intern will be responsible for analyzing data to provide actionable insights to marketing and product teams. This role will focus on "using data to tell the story" and will use knowledge of Python, SQL, and data visualization tools like Tableau to support data-driven decision-making and optimize business performance. This internship is a great opportunity to get involved in supporting American Democracy. Please note that this is an unpaid internship at a nonprofit organization.

WeVote is a nonpartisan, get-out-the-vote nonprofit startup and a celebrated Fast Forward nonprofit technology grantee. WeVote is a movement of excellent, passionate volunteers (starting with the founders) who build open-source mobile technologies that touch and mobilize millions of voters on Election Day. We believe that many voters are busy, distracted, and impatient. Hours: 20+ hours per week, during work hours (M-F, 8-5 pm), 3-month commitment (Summer 2025 break)

Main Responsibilities

  • Analyze web app server data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support marketing and product initiatives.
  • Collaborate with various internal teams to understand their data needs and provide analytical support.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using Tableau (or a similar BI/presentation tool) to visualize data and track key performance indicators.
  • Use Python and SQL to extract, clean, and analyze large datasets.
  • Communicate findings (and possibly) recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity through rigorous testing and validation.

Technical/Experience Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Business, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis and scripting.
  • SQL skills for querying and managing large datasets.
  • Advanced in Excel.
  • Experience with Tableau (or a similar tool) for creating interactive dashboards and charts.
  • Proficient in presentation tools that give a visual presentation of the data, presentation tools such as Canva, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, Apple Keynote, and Prezi.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey insights to non-technical stakeholders. Must be able to present data and tell a story.
  • A high-level thinker who sees the big picture and thinks strategically.
  • A willingness to work with and support other volunteers.
  • Must be in agreement with WeVote’s Core Values.
