The Senior Research Associate (TPC) for The Urban Institute, will report to our Washington, DC HQ loc and may telecommute. Participate in all aspects of the research center including the following: contributing to and writing research reports; writing and conducting research alone + as part of a team; organizing conferences + public forums; communicating w/ press + policymakers; writing grant proposals; and assisting w/ development + implementation of strategic vision. Provide intellectual leadership in project development + execution. Mentor + provide oversight to Jr research staff. Identify + develop ways to better advance mission of educating the public, press, and policymakers about tax policy. Assist with/ development of business tax model. Serve as expert on corporate + international tax policy. Articulate complex ideas or proposals on corporate + international tax policy + similar topics into short, digestible briefs + reports. Present papers + participate in public events discussing tax issues. Identify new funding sources + partnership opportunities. Communicate w/ policy experts + decision makers.

May undergo background checks. Salary $115,550 to $180,000 per year. Must have Bachelor's in Economics or related field, 5 years of relevant policy research experience, and required skills (5 yrs exp); Masters in Economics or related field, 2 years of relevant policy research experience, and required skills (2 yrs exp); OR PhD in Economics or related field. The required skills are: researching US and international tax law and policy; applying public finance and corporate tax policy; writing technical research papers and communicating to nontechnical audiences; applied micro-economics; economic methods; and at least one of the following: microsimulation modeling or programming (Strata, R, Python, or Fortran).
