Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Remote iOS Teacher with expertise in Swift to teach an engaging and structured coding course to incarcerated students. This role is a pilot at a facility at a Maine Correctional Center to teach the fundamentals of iOS app development, with a focus on Swift programming. Selected team member for this position must be available for an in-person training session in person in TN, March 3-7 and able to teach remotely during the ~12-week course. Important Requirements: Availability for Training: Must be available for a 5-day training session from March 3-7. Schedule Flexibility: Able to commit to a consistent teaching schedule for the duration of ~12 week program. Competitive hourly rate.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruction: Teach the basics of iOS app development and Swift programming to incarcerated students through a remote learning platform.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Use an established curriculum to deliver lessons, assignments, and projects that are tailored to beginner and intermediate learners.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback to help students succeed.
  • Classroom Management: Foster a positive, respectful learning environment where all students feel supported.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and report student progress, identifying areas where additional support is needed.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Swift and iOS development, with experience developing apps or working professionally in the field.
  • Teaching Experience: Previous experience teaching or mentoring in coding, preferably in remote or unconventional settings.
  • Familiarity with remote teaching tools and the ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning needs.
  • Commitment: Passionate about education and social impact, with a desire to work with justice impacted communities.
  • Preferred Qualification: Formerly incarcerated or experience working with justice-impacted individuals or in prison education programs.
  • Preferred Qualification: Familiarity with secure educational technologies and remote learning platforms.

Unlocked Labs is a non-profit organization that partners with correctional educators and state corrections departments to design technology infrastructure to better deploy programs and track outcomes, in order to understand efficacy and inform best practices in the justice system.
