The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop technology to rid the world’s oceans and rivers of plastic. One part of the solution is to design, develop, and deploy cleanup systems to stop plastic from reaching our oceans by intercepting it in rivers.

THE ASSIGNMENT
We are hiring a Rivers Operations Architect who will be responsible for determining the capacities needed to clean riverine plastics within a city.
The city approach design includes the following variables: plastic volumes in rivers, extraction systems and extraction volumes, recycle- and waste management infrastructures, transport infrastructures, and operational resources. In addition, propose future capacity requirements.

THE ASSIGNMENT
We are hiring a Rivers Operations Architect who will be responsible for determining the capacities needed to clean riverine plastics within a city.
The city approach design includes the following variables: plastic volumes in rivers, extraction systems and extraction volumes, recycle- and waste management infrastructures, transport infrastructures, and operational resources. In addition, propose future capacity requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Work out the conceptual city design into detailed operational designs per river
- Design the holistic city-wide operational plan for river cleaning
- Working closely together with engineering, catch management, and river surveyors
- Assess city waste capacities and draw up forecasts based on river catch expectations
- Undertake appropriate calculations to estimate capacities and timings to extract and dispose of river waste
- Determine requirements for resources tools and materials to run operations
- Propose installation sequence based on available capacities
- Technical or logistic supply chain background
- Able to overview the holistic city approach; recognize opportunities and bottlenecks
- Prior experience in a capacity planning role or operational design role
- Prior experience of building capacity models and plans and undertaking complex analysis to create accurate information
- Experience or knowledge of statistics, forecasting, and management information methods and techniques
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Team player, working closely together with other disciplines within the Rivers team
- Excellent communicator with the ability to communicate complex concepts to others
- Able to form and maintain good relationships internally and externally
- Strong numeracy, statistical, and reporting skills with the ability to analyze, interpret and manage information, data, and trends
- Attention to detail skills
- Fluent in English and preferably in another global language
- Intrinsic motivation to clean the oceans and rivers
- Willing to travel

- Location: The role is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
