MISSION TO METRICS
The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. In the River Team, we aim to prevent floating plastic from being emitted into the oceans through the most polluted rivers in the world.

The Analysis & Performance team contributes to the success of The Ocean Cleanup by ensuring that the decision-making processes in Rivers are grounded in reliable data. Our team gathers relevant data, understands the dynamics of river systems and macroplastics, and monitors the impact of our solutions and the environmental conditions in which they operate.

Your role is to quality-check our data on rivers and extend it with other helpful information. It will also include writing documentation, doing data analysis, and, to a certain extent, automation. The results will support the team by centralizing and solidifying the knowledge of all the rivers in the world. This data forms the basis for prioritization, further data collection, and other important decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Quality check data
  • Collect, standardize, and analyze data
  • Support with documentation
  • Report on results and findings
  • Cooperate with the Analysis & Performance team and other scientists on macroplastic research-related topics
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably post-graduate science education in environmental sciences, engineering, biology, or a closely related field
  • Experience with geospatial data
  • Experience with QGIS is a plus
  • Experience with databases or large datasets is a plus
  • Experience or willingness to learn Python is preferred
  • Fluent in English
