In our mission to rid the world’s oceans of plastic, forging and maintaining relations with governments, international organizations, and like-minded institutions is essential. The Ocean Cleanup is looking for a Global Public Affairs Junior who will support The Ocean Cleanup with public affairs and policy research on plastic pollution. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of strategies and methods to build international consortia with like-minded and governmental institutions, and have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. The Global Public Affairs Junior will report to the General Counsel & Director of Global Public Affairs. “We are living in a watershed moment for the intersection between plastic pollution and international relations. RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and Responsibilities of the Global Public Affairs Junior include:
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of the Global Public Affairs Action Plan
- Support the development and management of working relationships and constructive dialogue with governments, international organizations, and like-minded institutions
- Monitor and analyze relevant policy developments at national, regional, and global levels, including writing briefing notes
- Representing The Ocean Cleanup at stakeholder meetings, events, and fora
- Assist in managing public affairs partnerships and alliances
- Assist in engagement with governments, especially in support of country-specific projects
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 1-2 years of working experience (including internships) in international or multilateral organizations, or with diplomatic and intergovernmental processes
- A Master’s Degree in political science, international relations, international law, public administration, or related fields
- Proven ability to develop and maintain contacts with governments and international organizations
- Exposure to numerous cultures and proven to thrive in such environments
- Demonstrated ability to deliver tangible results as a function of the networks you have developed
- Full professional proficiency in English is required. Advanced knowledge of French, Spanish and Dutch are a strong advantage
