The TLM Joint Venture (JV) Facilitator works on-site at San Quentin to supervise the Artist Development Program and manage daily operations. This role is the direct point of contact for the incarcerated individuals (interns) working in the JVP. The facilitator ensures a productive environment while interns edit long and short-form audio/video content and work as studio musicians.
This position reports to the ProOps Manager and is an on-site role located in the new Training Center at SQRC.
Responsibilities:
Joint Venture Operations
- Create and maintain a healthy, professional, and constructive workplace culture among incarcerated individuals.
- Provide vocational training and develop job skills in a real work setting focused on audio and video production.
- Facilitate remote meetings for incarcerated individuals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for incarcerated individuals, providing feedback and insight into their experience to the JVP and executive staff.
- Empower incarcerated individuals to set and work towards individual goals, including building personal plans and self-advocacy.
- Report all acts of misconduct by incarcerated individuals that violate laws, regulations, or rules to the SQRC Contact(s).
- Act as a technical sounding board for incarcerated individuals, helping them troubleshoot audio signal flow, mixing challenges, and video editing workflows.
- Oversee the project lifecycle from capture to deployment, ensuring interns effectively use DaVinci Resolve for video and Pro Tools for audio.
- Guide interns in clearing technical blockers and maintaining project momentum without providing direct answers, fostering independent problem-solving.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Administrative & Logistical
- Manage the classroom space located in the new SQRC Training Center and oversee the use of program-specific equipment.
- Manage schedules for a crew of 3 or more incarcerated individuals across 6-hour shifts.
- Complete all necessary paperwork, including quarterly performance evaluations and time-keeping documentation (CDCR 1697).
- Maintain records of any issues with incarcerated individuals or equipment and supply lists for review.
- Coordinate with the institution's staff to obtain gate clearances for vendors.
- Ensure all required notices under the contract or law are posted in a prominent location.
- Must not currently be on the visiting list of any individual incarcerated at SQRC, unless related.
Essential Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership position, working with diverse groups.
- Excellent communication skills, including empathetic listening and teaching abilities.
- Experience in maintaining firm professional boundaries in a high-stakes environment.
- Must be proficient in Pro Tools and DaVinci Resolve, with the ability to troubleshoot production-specific technical issues.
- Demonstrated experience managing audio/video project lifecycles and media assets.
- Ability to use "Rubber Ducking" techniques—listening to an intern explain their production workflow to help them identify their own errors.
Compliance & Requirements:
- Ability to satisfy the CDCR background investigation and gate clearance requirements (CLETS check).
- Must comply with all institution rules regarding contraband, conduct, and clothing restrictions.
- Required to be tested for Tuberculosis (TB) before starting work and annually thereafter.
- Must comply with the Prison Rape Elimination Policy (PREA).
- Must not bring electronic devices (cell phones, cameras) onto the institution's grounds.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to walk extended distances (up to 1 mile or more per day) across the institution's grounds.
- Ability to stand or move about the classroom for long periods to provide side-by-side technical support.
- Comfort working in a secure, correctional environment with limited natural light and strict movement protocols.
