Suma is a nonprofit in Portland that creates platforms for digital organizing, enterprise, and justice. We imagine and build an inclusive technology future with and for low-income people and people of color (“frontline communities”). We believe that responsive technology investments and institutions can build community power to address climate change, poverty, and racial injustice. Organizing Suma brings digital capacity building curriculum and work sessions to frontline communities. Enterprise Suma develops a web-based platform that overcomes the cost, privacy, and banking barriers that prevent frontline communities from using their technology to access essential goods and services. Justice Suma builds frontline leadership in technology policy making and overcomes the digital divide.
