Full-Stack Software Engineer

About the Role
We’re looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer who is passionate about building impactful solutions that transform education. This role requires strong skills across both front-end and back-end, with the ability to design, build, and scale applications that are reliable, user-friendly, and aligned with our mission.
You’ll build end-to-end across our stack, working heavily with AI coding tools (especially Claude Code) — which means you’ll direct that work, review it critically, and own the correctness and quality of what ships, front to back. We value adaptability, ownership, and a strong learning attitude.
Our stack: Next.js + React (TypeScript, Tailwind) on the front end · Node.js/Express and Python/FastAPI on the back end · MongoDB + Redis · Git + CI/CD · GCP. These are deliberate, AI-friendly choices, so you can move fast and still review with confidence.
Before You Apply
This role is not light, routine, or heavily guided. You’ll handle ambiguity, move quickly across multiple priorities, and deliver production-ready solutions with little to no revision — including code an AI agent drafted and you made correct. You must stay calm under pressure, take full responsibility for your work, and deliver reliable outputs even when requirements shift mid-week or feedback needs a fast turnaround.
If you want a role that will stretch your technical range, sharpen your problem-solving, and connect your work to a mission that matters, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Stack Development
- Design and build front-end and back-end features for web and mobile: responsive, accessible interfaces in Next.js/React, and scalable APIs and services in Node.js/Express and Python/FastAPI.
- Own features end-to-end — data model to UI — with sound design decisions and rigorous testing.
- Work with MongoDB and Redis for reliable, performant data and state.
AI-Assisted Development & Oversight
- Direct Claude Code and other AI tools to build features fast, writing clear specs and prompts.
- Review and refine AI-generated code across the stack; you’re accountable for correctness, security, and maintainability — not the AI.
- Set conventions and tests that keep AI output consistent and safe to ship.
Collaboration & Delivery
- Partner with product, design, and program teams to turn requirements into effective solutions.
- Take part in agile ceremonies and code reviews, keep CI/CD deployments fast and safe, and provide prompt support for live systems.
- Maintain clear technical documentation for the systems you build.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years as a full-stack developer shipping applications in production.
- Front end: proficiency with Next.js/React and TypeScript (Tailwind or similar).
- Back end: strong skills in Node.js/Express and/or Python/FastAPI; comfortable with Next.js server-side code. (Depth on one end plus solid range across the rest is fine — you don’t need to be an expert in everything.)
- Experience with MongoDB and Redis, and sound API design.
- Disciplined testing, plus Git and CI/CD.
- Ability to direct AI coding tools (especially Claude Code) and critically review their output — strong enough to catch what the AI gets wrong.
- Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to work independently under pressure.
Bonus Points If You Have
- Containerized deployments (Docker or similar).
- Experience with AI/ML or data-driven applications.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD beyond the basics.
- A real knack for prompt and workflow design with agentic coding tools.
- Experience in edtech, mission-driven, or non-profit projects.
Why Join Us?
You’ll be joining a team with a bold mission to transform education. We don’t expect perfection, but we do expect creativity, ownership, and a strong learning attitude. If you’re looking for routine work, this may not be the right fit. But if you’re ready to build end-to-end solutions that matter and create real-world impact — we’d love to hear from you.
