Flexible remote position with cancer not-for-profit startup

Company overview: Reboot Rx is the tech nonprofit startup dedicated to fast-tracking the development of affordable cancer treatments by repurposing generic drugs (www.rebootrx.org). Our proprietary AI technology rapidly analyzes vast amounts of data on generics approved for non-cancer uses and identifies promising repurposing opportunities. We selected prostate cancer as our first cancer type to address. In only 12 weeks, we analyzed data from 16K+ published research studies on prostate cancer and non-cancer generic drugs. The top drugs our team of scientists identified have shown encouraging safety and efficacy for treating prostate cancer in extensive clinical studies, including Phase 2 randomized controlled trials. We are now building global partnerships to run larger clinical trials, establish a regulatory pathway, and promote the adoption of generics in the standard of care for patients worldwide. We plan to scale our impact to other cancer types by expanding our partnerships and advancing our AI technology based on our success with prostate cancer.

Position description: The Head of Clinical Development will report to the CEO and serve as a hands-on contributor working closely with our science and tech teams to advance the generic drugs we identify into the standard of care for cancer patients. The ideal candidate will have medical oncology knowledge and expertise in drug development and clinical implementation. In the near-term, the successful candidate will:

  1. Assess the existing scientific and clinical evidence for our top prostate cancer drugs, complete target product profiles, and get input from domain experts to determine the level of additional evidence needed to change the standard of care;
  2. Generate hypotheses about the drugs in specific contexts that we will then test further using real-world data from electronic health records; and
  3. Develop clinical trial synopses to evaluate the drugs in larger trials and help establish partnerships like with clinical trialists at academic medical centers to run the trials.

Future work may involve assisting our team with prioritizing promising generic drugs for other cancer types using our AI technology and leading their clinical development.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • MD, relevant scientific PhD, or similar advanced degree
  • Oncology expertise, with prostate cancer knowledge preferred
  • Experience with drug development, including clinical trial design
  • Working understanding of clinical implementation pathways, including the FDA drug approval process and how new treatments are added to clinical practice guidelines
  • Familiarity with stakeholders in the cancer ecosystem, including governments, foundations, payers, providers, pharmaceutical companies, and academic medical centers
  • Enthusiasm for and/or experience with drug repurposing
  • Familiarity with generating real-world evidence from electronic medical records and insurance claims data
  • Exceptional organizational, written communication, and public speaking skills with acute attention to detail
  • Strong team player and interpersonal skills with an open-mind and positive attitude
  • Experience or keen interest in working at an innovative startup with the flexibility and adaptability needed to achieve the organization’s goals

Details: This is a full-time or part-time position. Work will be done remotely with a flexible work schedule. The individual can live anywhere within the U.S., though a preference will be given to Massachusetts residents. Occasional travel may be required. Benefits include an employer-matched 401(k) plan with Roth option. Reboot Rx is an equal opportunity employer. All candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.; unfortunately we cannot provide visa sponsorship at this time.

To apply: Please send your resume and a short description of why you would like to work at Reboot Rx to hiring@rebootrx.org. Please include “Head of Clinical Development” in the email subject line.

The Reboot Rx story: Founded by CEO Dr. Laura Kleiman and CTO/COO Pradeep Mangalath in 2020, Reboot Rx is driven by a mission to bring cancer treatments to patients more quickly than traditional approaches to drug development. Our goal is to repurpose generic drugs as-is and not to change the drugs to create new patent protection, as this would negate many of the advantages of finding new uses for approved, low-cost drugs. We see our role as identifying the most promising drug candidates and ensuring that definitive evidence is gathered and the drugs become the standard of care; the drugs are already widely available and we do not plan to manufacture or sell them. We are a small organization with big ambitions, and we have achieved a lot in a short time thanks to numerous collaborations with prominent stakeholders in oncology and tech across academia, government, and industry. Our team is a mix of professionals and graduate and undergraduate students in biology and computer science. We are a positive and supportive team committed to helping all staff develop and grow. Our organization values patient-driven impact, scientific rigor, kindness and respect, open-mindedness and flexibility, and putting health and family first. We are funded through grants and philanthropy, which allows us to pursue the drugs with the greatest potential impact for patients.

Reboot Rx is an equal opportunity employer.
