OVERVIEW OF LANDSCALE:

LandScale is an innovative global initiative, co-led by the Rainforest Alliance and Conservation International, which aims to drive improvements in sustainability at landscape scale. To do this, LandScale offers an integrated system to assess and communicate trusted information about landscape sustainability, comprising a thorough sustainability assessment framework, detailed guidance, an online platform, and a validation mechanism. The LandScale system is available to any organization convening, implementing, or financing work to improve sustainability at landscape scale. In addition to scaling the use of the LandScale system, the initiative is working to demonstrate that the information generated by LandScale assessments can form the basis for innovative market, financial, and policy mechanisms (e.g., sustainability linked loans, payment for ecosystem services, preferential sourcing) that can incentivize the actions needed to deliver improvements in sustainability at landscape scale. LandScale is developing a fee-based business model with the aim of becoming self-financing as soon as possible.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative Technical Officer to support the delivery of technical projects and services. The Technical Officer will contribute to the continuous improvement and application of our Environmental, Social, Governance and Production assessment methodologies, tools, and resources. This role will support technical workstreams by ensuring the effective management of data resources and by contributing to the development of the Assessment Framework, guidance materials, and partnerships that enhance our services. The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter with strong analytical and communication skills, able to manage multiple priorities, and eager to contribute to the team’s impact. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months, with potential for extension contingent upon the availability of funding.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to LandScale’s expertise on Environmental, Social, Governance and Production impact assessment methodologies, relevant data sources, and analytical approaches.
  • Lead the management and ongoing innovation of the Data Resources Library, ensuring it is maintained, regularly updated, and continuously enhanced to meet user needs. This includes being responsible for the review and integration of data resources, maintaining high-quality metadata aligned with best practices, and coordinating the Operations and Product Teams to prioritize and implement improvements.
  • Conduct analyses and generate insights to strengthen LandScale’s technical resources and data quality. This includes assessing the use and gaps of datasets within assessments, as well as analyzing assessment results to support accurate metric aggregation and ensure consistency and integrity in how results are interpreted and communicated across portfolios.
  • Identify, develop, and strengthen partnerships with organizations offering relevant datasets, data collection tools, and data analytics on sustainability topics.
  • Support technical workstreams, such as:
    • Contributing to updates of step-by-step guidelines and related guidance materials to ensure they are user-friendly, adaptable across contexts, and aligned with best practices;
    • Assisting with the development of the Assessment Framework, including through gap analyses and framework mapping, to ensure it remains robust, science-based, and adaptable across diverse contexts;
    • Drafting and reviewing technical content and communication materials to ensure accuracy and consistency;
    • Tracking user feedback and monitoring sustainability regulations and voluntary initiatives, identifying and prioritizing inputs that should be reflected in the work;
    • Contributing to the delivery of technical support services for users, including responding to data- and methodology-related queries;
    • Providing research, analysis, and coordination as required.
  • Coordinate with the Operations Team to contribute to the design of resources that enhance technical support, validation, training, and service delivery for users.
  • Provide recommendations to the Product Team and contribute to specifications for platform improvements, implementation of new guidelines or new functionality to optimize user experience.
  • Represent LandScale in internal and external meetings, conferences, and presentations.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
