Who You Are

LKMA’s Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Department is expanding to support a growing portfolio of public infrastructure and building projects throughout Long Island. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take a lead role in the planning, design, and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for public-sector facilities.

This position is intended for an experienced mechanical engineer capable of independently managing design tasks while providing technical guidance and coordination support across multidisciplinary project teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in the development of mechanical system concepts, preparation of construction documents, and support of public bidding and construction efforts.

Flexible work arrangements, including fully remote, hybrid, or in-office options, are available for qualified candidates. Regardless of work location, the position involves close collaboration with the firm’s Architects, Civil Engineers, and Electrical Engineers as part of a fully integrated design team.

What You'll Do

Potential work tasks may include the following:

• Preparation of contract drawings and construction documents using Revit MEP and AutoCAD software in accordance with public agency standards and requirements.

• Development of commercial heating and cooling load calculations and energy analysis using industry-standard energy modeling software to support system selection and code compliance.

• Design, layout, and sizing of HVAC systems including central plant systems, air handling systems, terminal units, and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems for public facilities.

• Design and sizing of hydronic systems including heating and chilled water distribution, pumping systems, and associated controls.

• Design and layout of ductwork systems, including supply, return, and exhaust air systems, with coordination of architectural and structural constraints.

• Design and sizing of plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary (DWV), and fuel gas systems in compliance with applicable codes and public agency standards.

• Preparation of wet and dry fire sprinkler system layouts and hydraulic calculations in coordination with fire protection requirements.

• Preparation of technical specifications to support construction and bidding documents.

• Field investigations, site surveys, and data collection to document existing conditions and support renovation and infrastructure upgrade projects.

• Preparation of construction cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and support during public bid and procurement processes.

What You Bring

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit MEP software.
  • Working knowledge of energy modeling software such as Carrier’s HAP, Elite CHVAC, Energy Pro, or DOE’s EnergyPlus is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic calculation software such as AutoSPRINK is a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • ±7-10 years of professional mechanical engineering design experience.
  • PE license preferred, not required.
