ABOUT THE POSITION, alongside our other HR Partner, you will be a critical liaison to a group of our regional teams ensuring that we are executing our people initiatives, providing excellent internal customer support, and driving HR functional excellence and process improvements. You will simultaneously ensure employees in your regions have a positive experience in their day-to-day work and engage with employees and managers to resolve complex employee relations issues. You will support approximately 200 employees currently in 6 states and partner with managers and leaders in our Playworks regional offices across the western states of the U.S.

As the People Team - HR Partner, you will also collaborate closely with your colleagues on the People Team and with other departments to support employees and managers on HR processes and policies.

This is a remote, full-time, exempt position that reports directly to the Sr. HR Partner working West Coast hours.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Build effective partnerships and consult with regional leaders and managers on policies and processes including talent planning, performance management, orientation, career growth, risk and liability management, and compliance with applicable federal and state laws and other established internal HR policies and procedures
  • Serve as the primary employee relations contact for all staff in your assigned regions consult with managers and regional leaders on employee issues and quickly and responsibly resolve employee relations matters including discipline and performance improvement planning, conducting investigations, and preparing documentation for all employee life cycle events including hires, promotions, status changes, terminations, etc.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations matters by facilitating open conversations and/or conflict resolution techniques between managers/supervisors and employees
  • Partner with managers and leaders to support performance management, retention, engagement, learning & development, and team health activities. Assist leaders in organizational design and change management activities that impact people and support shifting business needs such as implementing new roles, processes, and structures
  • Facilitate full-cycle recruitment and talent acquisition to include assisting managers in developing and drafting job descriptions, ensuring alignment with diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments, and supporting interview, candidate selection, offer, and onboarding processes
  • Utilize HR metrics to identify trends, root causes and propose solutions to improve or address organization, team, and management performance and employee satisfaction and engagement
  • Collaborate with the Sr. HR Partner and other People Team members to recommend, design, and lead implementation of HR systems, processes, and strategies based on your own data-driven analysis of areas to improve
  • Participate in special project work in the HR function, including driving process improvement, facilitating communication, and balancing the needs of employees with the needs of the organization

You have at least several of the following, with a desire to master the rest:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education/certification and experience required. SHRM or PHR/Certification preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in dedicated HR role(s)
  • Solid and broad knowledge of employment law and HR practices especially in employee relations, compliance, and performance management. Proven ability to explain and interpret complex policies and processes with consistency and in keeping with organizational values
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects and recommending and designing talent-related policies/procedures
  • Superior emotional intelligence and cultural competence. Proven ability to work with diverse people, cultures, and communities
  • Excellent active listening skills and exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication. Experienced in presenting content and facilitating meetings in-person and remotely, and with small and large groups
  • Strong customer service orientation and collaborative approach with experience collaborating with people at all levels and in multiple locations
  • Strategic, detail-oriented mindset and analytic approach with a willingness to be hands-on and assume tactical job duties
  • A self-starter with excellent planning, time management, and organizational skills and demonstrated success in managing multiple competing demands, meeting deadlines, and moving projects and initiatives to completion
  • Excellent computer skills with extensive experience with HR management and information systems and strong knowledge of Google Suite

Bonus points if you have:

  • Knowledge of California laws and regulations
  • Industry certification (PHR or SPHR)
  • Experience as an HR business partner in a multi-state organization
  • Knowledge and experience working in nonprofit organizations and organizations serving schools and/or vulnerable and youth populations
  • Experience with our existing HRIS- UKG

  • At Playworks, our starting salary takes into consideration internal pay equity, geographic pay differential, and robust external market data. We highly value transparency and equity within compensation and therefore are committed to adhering to established compensation pay points. The starting salary for this position is: San Francisco Bay Area or New York City based - $94,700. All other locations - $89,900.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k) and 1% employer match, employee-funded pre-tax health and child care spending accounts.
