Peer Health Exchange (PHE) is a national nonprofit that builds healthier communities with young people. We create educational opportunities for peers to share the tools and resources young people need to make healthy decisions. Over the past two years, we’ve partnered with young people to build a digital community – selfsea – to support their mental health. selfsea (both a mobile and web-app) helps young people learn about their health from peers, have safe and inclusive conversations, and get connected to tailored resources, including with a partnership with Headspace. Early data shows that 76% of young people said selfsea helps them feel like they are alone, and 28% of users took a next step to further their well-being. selfsea builds on our nearly-two decades of work in high schools across the country. Since 2003, we have trained 15,000 college-age young adults to deliver health education to 200,000 high school students in under-resourced communities nationwide and seen strong results in help-seeking behaviors.
