Who We Are

The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high-quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our free-to-use platform, Oppia (https://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve.

Where You Fit In

Millions of children are not receiving the education they deserve. Of the 61 million children worldwide who cannot attend primary school, 17 million will never step foot into a school if trends continue. In the wake of COVID-19, millions more children are also seeing interruptions in their daily lives, stability, and education, making it even more difficult than before for many students to get the education they need to succeed.

Many people don't realize that a large proportion of the world has limited access to education and that this denies them opportunities in life, through no fault of their own. We seek to amplify this cause and bring awareness to the voices and stories of these learners, as well as build a community that advocates for and makes active efforts to support equitable access to education for everyone. We also want more learners and parents in these situations to know about the tools that Oppia provides (such as the offline-playable Oppia Android app with a full interactive basic math curriculum), so that they can make use of them to support their education.

We are looking for social media channel managers who enjoy helping define social media marketing strategy and supporting the creation and execution of individual stories on our social media and blog. You should be familiar with social media marketing, passionate about the problems that Oppia is solving, and excited about community engagement. Experience in brand-building is also a plus! While we’d prefer someone who has some experience in these areas, we're happy to work with someone who'd like to learn and develop through this role as well.

Oppia has a community of hundreds of passionate volunteers from across the globe, so our meetings are held online at flexible times.

What Our Social Media Manager (Volunteer) Contributes

• Align social media efforts with broader marketing goals.
• Develop engaging ideas for how to share stories about our learners and us
• Collaborate with team members to create and develop an effective social media strategy and content calendar
• Monitor and respond to comments/messages promptly.
• Write compelling captions, social posts, and ad copy tailored to each platform.
• Join trending conversations in the education, open-source, and impact spaces — sharing Oppia’s perspective and insights.
