Who We Are

The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our free-to-use platform, Oppia (https://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve.

Where You Fit In

Millions of children are not receiving the education they deserve. Of the 61 million children worldwide who cannot attend primary school, 17 million will never step foot into a school if trends continue. Students around the world face difficulties accessing quality education due to conflict, discrimination, and lack of teacher training – and, in the wake of COVID-19, millions more children are also seeing interruptions in their daily lives, stability, and education, which makes it even more difficult for them to get the education they need to succeed.

Our community of volunteers has created a series of novel and engaging story-based mathematics lessons that have proved highly engaging and effective with students from underserved communities. We are looking to build upon this curriculum and further engage learners by developing practice questions. This is because we’ve found that learners who struggle with a mathematics topic find it useful to practice with varied questions that approach the same concept from different viewpoints. Currently, we are creating practice questions for key skills, and uploading these to our site so that learners can easily use them to develop their skills.

We are currently seeking detail-oriented individuals who can help upload existing questions onto our site as well as create new questions. This process includes writing succinct and clear explanations, identifying common misconceptions that learners face, and making edits following our review process. We pride ourselves on offering high-quality content to learners, and the Practice Questions team plays a key part in this! We welcome individuals who are willing to learn and grow through this opportunity, and are happy to guide those without prior experience in curriculum development or creating educational material.

What Our Practice Questions Team Contributes

• Implement existing practice questions using scaffolding from spreadsheets
• Create new practice questions based on specific skills that learners need additional practice with
• Improve questions based on feedback to ensure that they meet a high quality bar
