The Open Data Charter is a collaboration of more than 100 governments and organisations working around a shared set of global principles for how to access, share, and use data. What we need: Data rights and regulation are hugely topical right now... ODC is currently reviewing its three-year strategy, positioning, and tactics in view of a shifting political and technological environment and is seeking part-time support from an experienced and action-oriented professional to help develop and implement our communications plan for 2020. Key responsibilities: Help develop and deliver our advocacy and communications strategy; Create and articulate positioning and tactics to land arguments with key audiences; Identify and respond to themes and causes likely to have the most impact on our work; Develop key messaging, policy briefs, and storytelling materials that help advance our organisational strategy; Raise our profile and highlight the successes and impact of our work; Work with the wider ODC team and network to identify and address emerging issues that might impact our work; Collaborate closely with the Network Director to design effective communications campaigns and work up stories for outreach with media, government and other key audiences; Identify opportunities to contribute to influential conversations and policy debates. Desirable qualities: Adept at working across policy, advocacy and communications, ideally with a journalistic background; First-class written and spoken communications skills; Demonstrable track record of successful strategy development and delivery within advocacy and communications programmes; Able to set and deliver on clear and challenging goals; Collaborative, honest, self-motivated and enjoys operating under pressure; Strong leadership skills and ability to build trust as a close advisor, while demonstrating good judgment; Experience in purpose-driven social impact work, including transparency, privacy, open data, or open government. Human rights experience would be advantageous; Experience of working in a decentralised and global organisation, or in a variety of global settings, would be desirable; First-class written and spoken communications skills in English.
