ABOUT THE ROLE
At New Story, we pioneer solutions to end the global housing crisis by empowering families to become land and homeowners in thriving communities. We believe innovative approaches are crucial to achieving this mission at scale, and we are committed to tackling the systemic barriers inherent in affordable housing and financial inclusion for underserved populations.
The Impact Associate will play a key role in supporting the planning and activation of community engagement strategies across projects and will help translate our vision of Ideal Communities into practical tools, participatory processes, and design inputs for current and future housing developments with a strong focus on long-term sustainability and community ownership.
This is an ideal role for someone passionate about inclusive development, community engagement, and building vibrant, resilient neighborhoods. You don’t need to be an urban designer but you should be energized by listening, organizing, and connecting people to co-create better solutions.
Based in Mexico City, this role will work closely with our Impact and field teams to develop scalable, high-impact approaches that foster social cohesion, increase local participation, and drive innovation across New Story’s Housing & Community Journey.
WHERE YOU'LL FOCUS
Community Engagement & Social Innovation
Support the planning and rollout of community engagement strategies across projects, including interviews, workshops, and participatory diagnostics.
Help implement the Ideal Community framework, ensuring community voices inform project design and evaluation.
Support clear documentation and synthesis of community input into practical recommendations for internal teams.
Sustainability & Place-Based Strategy Support
Assist in implementing place-based strategies like the Sustainability Pilot by coordinating logistics, gathering resident input, and helping surface opportunities for local innovation.
Contribute to the development of community-facing materials and activities that reflect sustainable practices and encourage long-term stewardship.
Coordinate with other teams to ensure community feedback is integrated into broader housing and infrastructure strategies.
Learning & Systematization
Contribute to internal tools like the Community Building Playbook by helping document lessons, case studies, and templates.
Help track outcomes and stories from engagement processes to inform future strategy and project design.
Provide logistical and content support for cross-team initiatives that promote community well-being, inclusion, and resilience.
WHO YOU ARE
2–3 years of experience in community development, social programs, participatory research, or related roles.
Experience designing or supporting participatory processes with diverse groups.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills — able to coordinate details while staying people-centered.
Clear communicator, both in writing and conversation, with sensitivity to different contexts and stakeholders.
Familiarity with sustainability, housing, or urban development is a plus — but not required.
Comfortable working with internal documents, surveys, and qualitative data.
Collaborative, empathetic, proactive, and motivated by social impact.
Fluent in Spanish; strong professional English
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
New Story is in a period of strategic growth and innovation. As we explore new housing models and community strategies, many of our frameworks and processes are still evolving — and we see that as a strength. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, embraces iteration, and is excited to help shape emerging ideas into actionable strategies.
We’re looking for someone who can bring structure and initiative while staying flexible. Your responsibilities may shift over time as we learn more from the field and design new projects. If you’re energized by the opportunity to co-create solutions, adapt in real time, and grow alongside a mission-driven team, we’d love to work with you
