The Finance & Accounting Team is responsible for the financial well-being of the organization. This includes supporting the short and long-term planning/forecasting cycles, providing accurate and timely reporting for decision support, as well as, ensuring that we account for all transactions in accordance with GAAP and in a manner that supports required grant reporting. We collaborate cross functionally to ensure that the organization meets its financial goals which will enable it to fulfill its mission of transforming education.
The Finance & Accounting Analyst is a critical part of our small finance team, and plays a key role in ensuring the financial health of this fast moving social enterprise. We are seeking someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and shares our passion for reimagining education. The Analyst will understand the ways that New Classrooms works, and use that information to effectively account for and report on the org’s financials. This includes reviewing and approving expenses (invoices, contract payments, employee expenses) to ensure they are aligned with policies, creating forecasts and financial analyses to help budget managers effectively manage their budgets, monitoring and reporting on overall revenue and expenses to help manage the organization’s margins and cash flows, and collaborating with the fundraising team to develop grant budgets and track related expenses.
What You Would Do
Accounting
- Process and draft accounts payable transactions ensuring that bills and staff reimbursements are paid timely and accurately and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures
- Process and record cash receipts, revenue and receivables
- Prepare general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including payables, prepaid expenses, etc.
- Enter journal entries as appropriate
- Review and process submitted expense reports in accordance with NC T&E policy and accurate coding
- Assist with audits such as financial audit, 990, 1099s
- Organize and maintain filing systems for financial supporting documentation, as well as vendor and other confidential files
Financial Analysis
- Build and maintain financial models, forecasts and management reports that accurately depict the current and project state of the organization’s finances
- Create and present findings in a meaningful format to organization leaders to support decision-making
- Develop and maintain financial forecasts, and manage monthly budget meetings to support monthly budget review and long range planning
- Work in partnership with Fundraising and Sales teams to manage revenue targets and track progress against goals
- Perform activity-based and other costing analyses to determine the cost of products and services offered
- Enhance the organization's business intelligence and decision support capabilities through data, modeling, and systematic solutions
- Create institutional grant budgets and manage organizational expenditures against those budgets
- Provide financial information for the Board of Directors and for grant proposals as required

What We Are Looking For

- Bachelor's degree, preferably in finance or related field
- 2 - 4 years of progressive work experience in FP&A role, corporate finance, or investment banking, etc.
- 2 - 4 years of experience with accounting
- Familiarity with general accounting principles (GAAP)
- Advanced Excel/financial modeling skills and proven quantitative and analytical abilities
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Comfort working in a highly collaborative start-up/entrepreneurial work environment
- Ability to keep up with a busy and diverse task list
- Ability to work easily with people at all levels of the organization
- Team player with a willingness and eagerness to help
- Self-starter able to work independently
- Ability to handle highly sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality
- Experience with data visualization software a plus
Role Classification and Benefits
This role is remote, full-time, and includes benefits such as rich medical, dental, and vision insurance, 42 paid days off per year (prorated for the period in which you work), paid parental leave, a professional development budget and a quarterly cell phone subsidy.
The hiring salary range for this role is $63,000 - $66,000 and will be commensurate with experience. We have a hiring salary range of $70,000 - $74,000 for specific higher cost of labor locations, which include New York City, Washington DC, Boston, San Francisco/Oakland, Los Angeles, Seattle and their metro areas.
