About NatureServe

For 50 years, NatureServe has been the authoritative source for biodiversity data throughout North America. With an international network of over 60 Natural Heritage Programs and Conservation Data Centers across the United States and Canada (“the Network”), NatureServe is the leading source of information on rare and endangered species and the ecosystems on which North American species depend. To protect threatened biodiversity, NatureServe works with over 1,000 conservation scientists to collect, aggregate, and standardize biodiversity statistics, providing comprehensive data to the public for strategic conservation efforts. NatureServe and its network programs develop and manage the most comprehensive data for over 100,000 species and ecosystems, answering fundamental questions about what the critical elements of biodiversity are, where they are found, and how they are doing.

About the role

The Marketing & Communications Manager is a contributor on NatureServe's Marketing, Communications & Sales team, reporting directly to the VP of Marketing & Communications. This role goes beyond digital execution and serves as a strategic partner to the VP, helping to translate NatureServe's scientific work into compelling content, owning digital channel performance, and actively supporting the organization's growing product sales function.

This is a newly scoped position designed to match the expanded ambition of the MarCom function under VP leadership. The right candidate brings strong content and digital marketing experience, comfort working with scientific or technical subject matter experts, and the initiative to work autonomously in a remote-first environment.

What you'll do

NatureServe works with external vendors and contractors across social media, web, design, and technical platforms. This role manages that work while also handling core in-house responsibilities as needed.

  • Own and manage the content calendar across digital channels including web, social media, email, and campaigns
  • Develop and execute digital marketing campaigns aligned with NatureServe's strategic priorities and program goals
  • Translate complex scientific content into accessible, compelling narratives, including impact stories drawn from program teams, Network Partners, and conservation outcomes, for general and professional audiences
  • Lead social media strategy and execution across LinkedIn, Instagram, X/Twitter, and Facebook

Website & SEO Management

  • Manage NatureServe's website, including ongoing content updates, SEO strategy, and user experience improvements
  • Monitor site performance using Google Analytics and other tools; surface actionable insights to the VP
  • Collaborate with external vendors and platform partners on website improvements, integrations, and technical enhancements

Sales Enablement, Business Development & Donor Support

  • Develop marketing collateral, one-pagers, pitch materials, and campaign assets to support audience-specific outreach, product sales and donor engagement
  • Manage CRM-integrated email campaigns and nurture sequences in support of NatureServe's standard product sales strategy
  • Partner with the VP and business development teams to ensure consistent messaging across sales and other marketing materials

Reporting & Performance

  • Track and report on digital marketing KPIs; provide regular performance updates to the VP
  • Identify opportunities to optimize channel performance and test new approaches
  • Maintain organized documentation of digital assets and campaign histories
  • Monitor earned media coverage and track press mentions using media monitoring tools (e.g., Meltwater); surface insights and trends to the VP

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for marketing requests from program teams and other departments
  • Coordinate with scientists, program leads, and external partners to gather content (such as impact stories) and ensure accuracy
  • Support the planning, execution, and follow-up of NatureServe webinars and virtual events, including Zoom setup, registration management, and post-event communications.
  • Lead or co-lead major content initiatives including the Annual Report, in partnership with the VP
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors including social media contractors, web designers, and technical platform vendors
