Core Responsibilities
You will serve as an epidemiologist focusing on Infectious Diseases in Maine. You will be responsible for conducting public health surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases and will serve as secondary subject matter expert for one or more other infectious diseases. This position gathers and analyzes data that informs public health actions to control and/or prevent the spread of these infectious diseases in Maine. You will develop, manage, and evaluate statewide infectious disease surveillance systems; advise leadership on public health interventions; participate in outbreak investigations; and provide consultation on reportable disease conditions to protect the health of Maine citizens and visitors.
You will also:
• Coordinate the collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of surveillance data to stakeholders.
• Provide professional consultations to program epidemiologists, healthcare partners, and the public.
• Monitor national and international disease trends and emerging threats.
• Collaborate with Infectious Disease epidemiologists to improve program operations.
• Provide input to public health policy initiatives based on surveillance and evaluation to reduce barriers to disease control and prevention.
• Communicate epidemiological surveillance information effectively and accurately.
• Serve as Epidemiologist-On-Call and After-Hours On Call on a rotating basis.
• Participate in daily Infectious Disease Epidemiology morning conference call.
• Coordinate the state-sponsored Vaccine Preventable Disease Community of Practice.
• Assist the Immunization and Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program Directors with writing the Vaccine Preventable Disease sections of relevant grants and completion of required reporting.
• Other duties as reasonably assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree in Epidemiology or closely related field or a bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology or closely related field and two (2) years professional experience in epidemiology. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred candidates will also have:
• Knowledge of and experience with infectious disease epidemiology, particularly vaccine preventable diseases.
• Extensive database and statistical software skills including creation, management, and integration of diverse datasets.
• The ability to guide strategic discussions and help groups to reach decisions to further the mission of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program.
