Job Description:
This position assists the Statewide Vegetation Manger with various vegetation management programs including development of contracts, and quality control of services performed by contractors. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: scoping, estimating, and compiling of contract documents; entering and managing contract/agreement information in multiple systems; ensuring that small contracts comply with procurement and contracting requirements; inspection and verification of work performed by contractors or state forces to ensure work is performed in conformance with plans and contracts. Computer work is very detail oriented and accuracy is required to ensure payments are correct. Applying herbicides and overseeing those applying. Required to make independent decisions. Field work will include spraying, seeding, and vegetation management (culling/removing) of invasives/trees and maintaining landscapes; including the use of a chainsaw. This position is provided with a state vehicle for transportation during work to be housed at the nearest MaineDOT facility to the selected candidate's residence. 75% of work time will be on a computer. Excel will be used extensively as part of the job. Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Google Earth, and Garmin software are routinely used. The selected candidate will be required to obtain pesticide licenses 6A, 68, and Master Applicator. Will also require MaineDOT chainsaw certification.
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:
- Two-year combination of experience, or education in highway/bridge construction, fleet equipment repair, or transportation related maintenance including at least one year of lead worker experience.
- Must possess the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities noted above with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certifications.
Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).
Valid Class A motor vehicle license as issued by the State of Maine and completion of the 30-hour OSHA Safety course in construction (20 CFR Part 1926).
