National Institute on Money in State Politics is a non-profit national institute that promotes democracy by compiling full campaign-donor, lobbyist, and other information from government disclosure agencies nationwide. Its projects were created to collect, analyze, and make available state election political contribution records for differentregions. National Institute on Money in State Politics’ data includes a 50-state database of over 100,000 lobbyists and clients who register annually, and a 50-state database of contributions documenting 28 billion U.S. dollars. Its current expansions include selected local-level data, and collection of reports submitted by independent spending entities in up to 32 states, and political action committees in up to 39 states. Recently, the institute was honored to receive the 2015 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.
