MapX is an innovative spatial data platform to map and monitor the sustainable use of natural resources and the environment. It is built on open-source software and based on a cloud computing architecture. The principal goal of MapX is to help countries leverage the best available spatial information for decision-making on natural resources and the environment. It aggregates geospatial data from multiple sources and offers a series of online tools and dashboards for analysis, visualization and communications. As the platform matures, it will also help users leverage other technologies such as block-chain, smart contracts and artificial intelligence. MapX can be used by stakeholders to access a common pool of information, assess risks, prioritize actions and monitor impact. MapX front-end applications can be fully customized and integrated in external web interfaces. MapX is currently being used for spatial data support in the biodiversity, extractives, chemicals and water sectors.
