LaunchCode's Part Time Web Development for All

Part Time Web Development for All is a unique class that helps students develop the coding skills that will prepare them for apprenticeships in computer programming and information technology. The Part Time Web Dev class combines world-class online curriculum with dynamic in-person instruction and specialized skill tracks tailored to align with employer demand.

Lead Instructor Responsibilities

As Lead Instructor, your responsibility is to broadly ensure the overall success of the class alongside your team of Teaching Assistants (TAs). You will plan and deliver lectures, provide insight to TAs, and have final say in coordination with LaunchCode's Candidate Engagement Manager on what happens during each class session. You will also be the primary liaison with LaunchCode staff, communicating feedback and any changes you plan to make. This role and the course TAs report directly to LaunchCode's Candidate Engagement Manager.

Qualifications

  • Ability to empathize and work with learners from a wide variety of backgrounds and skill levels
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in topics covered (e.g. a Java instructor should at least be comfortable with a statically-typed OO language) <FOR LC101 ONLY - See our curriculum here.
  • Willingness to learn in-depth the topics they are less familiar with
  • General alignment with LaunchCode's educational philosophy
  • Ability to lead and coach Teaching Assistants

You're perfect for this role if you

  • Have substantial work experience as a developer and/or experience teaching at the college level
  • Have experience teaching (formal or informal; e.g. hands-on mentoring of a junior developer might fall into this category)
  • Have experience managing a team
  • Possess a passion for technology/programming/problem solving
  • Are engaged in the local tech scene

Position Type

Part Time - Contract

Class meets Mondays and Thursdays from 6 - 9 EST in Person at Belmont Charter School (1301 Belmont Ave #675, Philadelphia, PA 19104). Class starts July 17, 2023 and is estimated to run through March 7, 2024>. The Lead Instructor may be required to attend training sessions prior to class start. Class is planned to currently meet virtually through as we continue to follow guidelines set by public health officials related to COVID-19. Due to class being virtual, we are accepting applications from outside of our hub locations. Please note that all course staff would still be expected to be available at the class times listed above.

The total payment for this position is $15,500 The instructor can expect to work approximately 6 - 8 hours per week (6 hours per week for in-class time, any additional time is time Instructor spends prepping for class and/or meeting with Candidate Engagement Manager.) As a contractor, no benefits are provided.
