Summary

LaunchCode's Immersive CodeCamp Teaching Assistant

We're looking for a self-motivated Web Development Teaching Assistant to help us expand tech greatness in a virtual course. CodeCamp is a unique course that helps students develop the coding skills that will prepare them for apprenticeships in computer programming and information technology. CodeCamp combines a world-class online curriculum with dynamic in-person instruction and specialized skill tracks tailored to align with employer demand.

Teaching Assistants (TAs) assist with instruction, lead and maintain an advisory group of 8 - 12 students, and assist students through the coursework. As an advisory group leader, TAs assist students in coursework, provide reteaching for subjects covered, and lead their advisory group through small group exercises. TAs are required to become familiar with the class material and assignments before the class begins. This role reports to the course Instructor. TAs are expected to be familiar with web development concepts and have experience with JavaScript and Java.

This is a full-time, hybrid contract position with 3 days in office in downtown Philadelphia, PA. The length of the contract will begin in mid June 2023 running approximately 16 weeks including a preparation week (1 week) and the full duration of the course (15 weeks).

Role Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • Is responsible for the execution of course-related to student learning, including review sessions, group activities, and coding practices.
  • Is responsible for course administration including grading, attendance, student evaluation, and student communications.
  • Supports each individual student, including identifying their performance problems and working with them to create pathways for improvement.
  • Works with LaunchCode staff to manage student enrollment and learning status, and regularly report course and student progress.

  • Knowledge of technical concepts (JavaScript, Java, and related Frameworks)
  • Passion for programming
  • Strong communication skills - Leading small groups, and one on one instruction
  • Perception/Patience (knowing when a student needs help)
  • Growth Mindset

Position Type

Contract - 40 hours per week This is a 1099 Independent Contractor role. We are accepting applications from anywhere in the U.S. for this virtual opportunity.

Class meets Mondays - Fridays from 9:00am - 5:00 pm EST. Class is planned to be hybrid, with 3 days in office in Philadelphia, PA. Please note that all course staff would be expected to be available at the class times listed above.

Salary Range

Total of $15,000 - $18,000, commensurate with experience, to be paid in monthly installments through the duration of the course.
