Teaching Assistant Responsibilities

LaunchCode Teaching Assistants guide a group of students as their principal education and support point of contact throughout LaunchCode programs, while simultaneously refining their own professional development goals. The team leadership experience will provide the opportunity to grow your leadership, people management, and group facilitation skills.

Teaching Assistants complete 12 hours of paid training in teaching and facilitation fundamentals, project and people management, diversity and inclusion, and community building. Fellows will then serve as a team lead in LaunchCode's Part-Time Web Development program (typically 10 paid hours per week for 30 Weeks) while working towards personally-defined career development objectives.

This role reports to the LaunchCode Candidate Engagement Manager.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of back-end or full-stack web programming concepts
• Passion for others learning technical skills for entry-level tech careers
• Strong communication skills - comfortable leading small groups and/or providing one on one teaching assistance
• Perception/patience (knowing when a student needs help and guiding them in how to problem solve to find answers)
• Growth mindset

Position Type

Part-Time - Contract

This is a contracted, part-time, paid position for LaunchCode's Part-Time Web Development - Philadelphia cohort. The class will run for up to 32 Weeks, beginning on July 2023, with an estimated end date on March 2024. The class will meet weekly on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00 - 9:00 pm ET. Class is planned to currently meet in person in West Philadelphia at Belmont Charter High School (1301 Belmont Ave #675, Philadelphia PA). Due to the class being in person, we are not accepting applications from outside of Philadelphia. Please note that all course staff is expected to be available at the class times listed above.

Teaching Assistants will be paid $15.00/hr and will work 10 hours weekly. As part-time contractors, Teaching Assistants are not eligible for employee benefits through LaunchCode.
