Data Visualization Specialist
Location: Remote
Availability: 35-40 hours per week
Working hours: U.S. Eastern business hours required
The Partner Services team at Kobo, the nonprofit behind the leading humanitarian data collection toolkit KoboToolbox, is seeking an experienced Data Visualization Specialist to design and build interactive dashboards for our partners. Using tools like Power BI, Dash (Python), and Tableau, this role involves collaborating with our partners and technical support team to transform complex data into clear, engaging visuals. Prior experience using KoboToolbox and Power BI is required, while skills in advanced data analysis and web development are strongly preferred.
This position supports global organizations and requires strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work effectively in a remote setting.

Responsibilities
- Lead the design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards using Power BI, Dash (Python), and/or Tableau, integrating data from KoboToolbox and external sources.
- Communicate with partners to understand their needs, coordinate with KoboToolbox team, and integrate feedback and changes in a timely manner.
- Provide training materials and documentation to support partners in using their custom dashboards.
- Contribute to user documentation content in text, visual, and video format.
- Troubleshoot user support issues and coordinate with support and technical teams when necessary.
Required qualifications
- Proven experience with KoboToolbox, ODK, XLSForm and related tools.
- Proven experience building interactive dashboards with Power BI, Tableau, Dash (Python), or similar tools.
- Experience with R, Python, or JavaScript programming languages.
- Experience with data analysis, data cleaning, transformation, and manipulation using Excel, Python, R, or similar.
- Strong written and spoken proficiency in English.
- Ability to translate ideas from partners with limited experience in data visualization into intuitive, user-friendly products in a timely and professional manner.
- Proven experience creating documentation materials.
- Genuine interest in Kobo’s mission.
- Working hours in the Eastern time zone.
- Average availability of at least 30 hours per week, preferably 35 hours or more.
Preferred skills
- Experience working in data collection for humanitarian assistance, economic development, or similar fields.
- Written and spoken proficiency with another priority language (Arabic, Spanish, French).
- Active and contributing member of the KoboToolbox Community Forum.
- Experience facilitating or supporting KoboToolbox and/or Dashboard training sessions.
- Experience with social media scraping and sentiment analysis.
- Experience creating illustrative, storytelling infographics.
- Experience using tools such as Notion, Github, Git, Discourse, Hubspot, and Microsoft Power Automate.
