The Opportunity:
The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator (IEC) will work closely with Indigenous communities to advance Finding Hope: Kids Help Phone’s Action Plan for Supporting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Young People. The IEC will increase access to, and awareness of Kids Help Phone services and other resources among Indigenous youth and communities.

The IEC will support volunteers in Weaving Threads: An Indigenous Engagement Program and coordinate sessions of Brighter Days: An Indigenous Wellness Program supported by Sun Life. The IEC will also support Kids Help Phone’s broader Indigenous initiatives through volunteer recruitment, donor support, event and meeting coordination, and Indigenous advocacy efforts.

The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator will work directly with Indigenous youth and add more Indigenous perspectives to KHP programs and services therefore only First Nations, Métis and Inuit applicants with lived experience of Indigenous worldviews, cultures, and values will be considered.

What You’ll Do:

The scope of responsibility includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Support volunteers in Weaving Threads: An Indigenous Engagement Program through onboarding and training, regular check-ins, and assisting volunteers in their role of building awareness of Kids Help Phone services, providing ongoing input, connecting youth with resources and more.
  • Coordinate Brighter Days: An Indigenous Wellness Program supported by Sun Life including booking sessions and ensuring participating groups receive all program materials.
  • Coordinate the distribution of outreach materials to Indigenous communities.
  • Assist Indigenous communities who wish to increase access to and awareness of Kids Help Phone services.
  • Coordinate and support meetings and events including booking travel and accommodations, processing expense claims, and preparing meeting packages.
  • Contribute to Kids Help Phone committees and supports Indigenous advocacy efforts
  • Identify potential Indigenous partners, vendors, and trainers to support Kids Help Phone’s Indigenous and diversity initiatives
  • Update customer management software with volunteer information and other information as needed
  • Manage or support projects that support KHP Indigenous Initiatives and Equity Programs
  • Contributes to Indigenous program and service development, delivery and evaluation including the New Trails and upcoming Indigenous Mentorship Program

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in relevant discipline (e.g. public health, social work, education, applied social sciences, communications)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience supporting youth volunteers
  • Strong leadership skills as well as being able to be coachable, follow instructions and willing to ask questions
  • Strong time management skills to adhere to tight deadlines in a fast paced, resource-lean environment
  • Excellent attention to detail is paramount to ensure data is captured accurately and efficiently
  • Proficient preparation and planning skills to ensure Indigenous community members receive meaningful engagement
  • A trauma-informed lens to empower and support volunteers and team members
  • Strong sense of professionalism, confidentiality and commitment to maintaining a safe environment for youth
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products including Excel
  • Demonstrated commitment to volunteerism, non-profit and/or mental health sector
