The Position

Key Functions and Responsibilities

Volunteer Coordination

  • Support the Youth Engagement and Volunteer Manager across the life cycle of volunteer and ambassadors within Service Programs at Kids Help Phone, including:
    1. Recruitment & selection
    2. Training & onboarding:
      • Ensure ambassadors and volunteers are trained to represent KHP, present at events or community initiatives and effectively promote our programs and services
    3. Ongoing engagement, recognition & communications
      • Establish and monitor communication channels across volunteers, including problem solving to determine the most effective ways of communicating in line with KHP’s IT policies and processes.
  • Work with the Youth Engagement and Volunteer Manager to enhance and implement processes that support more standardization, consistency and sustainability as the ambassador network scales.
  • Maintain a clear tracking system of all volunteer and ambassador related information and engagements
  • Support internal and external engagement of the Kids Help Phone National Youth Council

Youth Engagement

  • Coordinate and facilitate youth engagement (including through focus groups and surveys) to inform KHP of trends to improve programs or advise on required topics
  • Implement the youth engagement strategy with support from the Youth Engagement and Volunteer Manager
  • Coordinate youth engagement requests through KHP, liaise with required teams and provide briefing information or details to youth ambassadors for their involvement.

Community Engagement

  • Coordinate, develop and distribute supplies, materials and promotional packages to ambassadors where required to promote KHP’s services and to deliver events and campaigns as needed.
  • Travel as required to schools, partners, funding events or KHP initiatives in Canada.
  • Develop and deliver presentations, attend networking events and delivery presentations where required
  • Support ambassadorship programs at schools, PSI’s, communities and in digital settings as necessary

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Brand, Storytelling & Communications team to implement promotional strategies for ambassador recruitment and youth engagement activities
  • Work collaboratively with the M&P team to develop necessary processes and ensure the journey of a young person or community through KHP’s programs is seamless and impactful

What You'll Need:
Education and Knowledge

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in relevant discipline (e.g. public health, social work, education, applied social sciences, communications, business)
  • Strong understanding of youth mental health and/or engagement
  • Strong understanding of the secondary and post-secondary education system for setting up or supporting student clubs and student-led events etc

Experience/Skills

  • 1-2 years of experience working in volunteer management/coordination, youth engagement, program coordination or support health promotion, outreach or partnerships coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop others
  • Ability to implement roadmaps and workplans to accomplish program objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to scale reach and volume of an initiative, track results and effectively communicate progress and outcomes.
  • Experience acting as a creative thinker with strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Can prioritize effectively to manage multiple initiatives and changing priorities across multiple programs, while remaining flexible and accountable to timelines
  • Ability to represent an organization through presentations, media or external facing communications
  • Able to work effectively in a flexible working environment
  • Ability to collaborate across various internal teams to implement activities
  • Strong time management, project management and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products

Additional Assets:

  • French language proficiency
  • Experience in youth program development is a strong asset
  • Experience with mentorship and managing risk within young people and youth volunteers
