The Opportunity
Kids Help Phone is looking for an HR Business Partner to join our People and Culture team, in either our Toronto or Montreal Office. Reporting to the Director, People and Culture, the successful candidate will deliver a wide range of Human Resources consultative services for union and non union staff within our Clinical Services Department. This role requires HR Professionals with strong labor relations experience and proven experience building relationships with leaders and union partners.
What You'll do:
- Provide consultative services in all facets of human resources, including recruitment, compensation and benefits, employee and labour relations, performance management, and other key areas to help our clinical services team do their best work.
- Provides expert labour relations advice and guidance to ensure the consistent application and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.
- Manages the grievance procedure including, but not limited to, investigating, attending Step 2 and Step 3 grievance hearings, preparing written responses and settlement agreements.
- Develop and facilitate presentations and workshops for management staff including changes to the collective agreements and effective management in a unionized environment.
- Work collaboratively with the recruitment team and provide input on recruitment activities within the assigned client group.
- Manage the disability and attendance management process for clinical services staff.
- Monitor all employment-related metrics for clinical services staff and prepare dashboards for the management team.
- Monitor and evaluate employee satisfaction and attrition levels and recommend strategies and employee focused programs and activities aimed to improve employee engagement and retention.
- Support and contribute to the development of HR policies and procedures to drive a high-performance culture and mitigate risk through a consistent approach.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- University Degree and CHRP/CHRL designation
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience working in HR with a proven expertise in employee and labour relations.
- Bilingual Fluency in English and French (both verbal and written) is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent communication and written skills
- Expert knowledge of Ontario and Quebec employment legislation and working knowledge of the Labour Relations Act; Health and Safety Act; Employment Standards Act; Human Rights Code and other employment-related legislation.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with managers, staff and union representatives.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality; and approach issues with objectivity and sensitivity.
