The Opportunity

In partnership with Kids Help Phone’s Philanthropy leadership team, the Senior Development Officer (SDO), Philanthropy & Partnerships will develop, execute and oversee a sophisticated corporate gifts pipeline with targeted strategies aimed to maximize engagement and philanthropic support with gifts in the 6-figure and 7-figure range.

The SDO will develop and build relationships to cultivate gifts from existing and new corporations. The SDO will manage a portfolio of assigned prospects, with annual production, cash and activity goals (targets to be set annually). The SDO will also be responsible for overseeing the execution of partnership activation deliverables.

The successful candidate will be an established fundraising professional, with diversified experience in major gifts, and corporate partnerships. They will be a strong relationship builder, self-driven, independent and demonstrate excellent communication skills.

What You’ll Contribute:

The Senior Development Officer, Philanthropy & Partnerships will:

  • Grow and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects through the development of cultivation and solicitation plans to solicit 6-figure and 7-figure major gifts, securing multi-year commitments where possible. These donors and prospects will largely have operations or headquarters based in Toronto and Ontario.
  • Build meaningful connections with corporate partners and volunteers that results in new funds that further KHP’s mission.
  • Develop comprehensive and tailored funding proposals and submit grant applications to solicit corporations, partnering with peers from Advancement Operations, Stewardship and Donor Relations functions, as needed.
  • Increase revenue generation from corporate major gift donors through other avenues of support, such as employee giving or peer-to-peer fundraising.
  • Manage fundraising and stewardship pipeline activity, including prospect identification by working with Prospect Research, managing and continually building the regional pipeline across the stages of identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Ensure that donors records are maintained and updated accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Support the activities of the Senior Development Manager, Principal Gifts & Partnerships, including the preparation of briefing notes, solicitation strategy development, proposal development, stewardship accountabilities, and more, including for corporate, individual, and foundation prospects and donors.
  • Participate in strategic planning to identify new revenue opportunities through fundraising priorities and serve as a team lead representative to support the advancement of select fundraising priorities within the Advancement team.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in non-profit management, programming and fundraising.
  • Collaborate with Donor Experience team to establish timely and appropriate stewardship plans, ensuring gifts are handled and recognized according to sound Advancement practices.
  • Work with Advancement colleagues on the development of internal communications, briefing notes, research profiles, funding proposals, gift agreements, stewardship reports, and accountability reports.
  • Develop and maintains an in-depth knowledge of Funding Priorities and applies this knowledge in matching the interests and needs of prospects.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, with a commitment to the equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion initiatives designed to foster an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming work environment for individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities.

What You’ll Need:

  • University or college degree in fundraising, sales, marketing, business development or corporate account management or combination of related experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive Major Gifts experience, with demonstrated success in soliciting multi-year gifts at the 6-figure and 7-figure level.
  • Track record of developing and leading new and creative corporate partnerships and supporting major corporate donors.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to proactively monitor and adjust activities to respond to changing circumstances and priorities to meet goals, proactively address issues as they arise and mitigate risks associated to events.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in order to communicate complex material successfully with external customers and staff within the organization.
  • Experience working with leadership volunteers to identify and cultivate prospective donors is an asset.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft 356, Raiser’s Edge or related fundraising database system. Experience with PowerBI considered an asset.
  • Holds or is working towards the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation or equivalent will be considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility to travel and to attend evening and weekend events.
  • Fluency in French considered an asset.
