Opportunity
The Caseworker will work with the Lebanon team in the screening and service provision of refugee beneficiaries. The caseworker will report to the IRAP Lebanon- Legal Services Director. The caseworker conducts in-person and phone interviews with refugee applicants and clients. In coordination with staff attorneys, the caseworker screens refugee applicants to ensure programmatic standards and criteria are met and adherence to IRAP policies and procedures. The caseworker provides support in the case management of client cases and ensures appropriate client service provision per IRAP standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients who have updates for IRAP after the formal submission of their application to an adjudicator.
  • Conduct objective in-person and phone interviews with refugee applicants in Arabic, to obtain and input biographical and narrative information in a client service database and written report in English.
  • Draft intake, correspondence, and other documents as needed.
  • Organize/update case files and maintain client file databases.
  • Attend training, capacity-building meetings, and other events relevant to human rights and refugee issues.
  • Document, analyze, and identify client needs, and make appropriate internal referrals to the Humanitarian Assistance Specialist as necessary.
  • Contribute to improving service provision through participation in office, departmental, and organizational working groups, advisory meetings, and committees.
  • Support the review and drafting of documents, training, practices, policies, and procedures to improve case management and support efficiency and efficacy.
  • Provide Know Your Rights, refugee resettlement, and IRAP training and presentations to refugee, NGO, and law student audiences.
  • Maintain and ensure confidentiality of all IRAP matters to ensure client privacy and program integrity.
  • Support legal research for new and evolving pathways.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.

Qualifications

  • Education
  • BA in legal and/or humanitarian field or related fields - MA in related field is a plus.
  • Experience
  • Prior nonprofit/NGO employment is a plus, especially in the international humanitarian context.

  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced and high-pressure work environment.
  • Highly organized and motivated with excellent time management skills.
  • Able to multitask and manage a high-volume workload.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to client empowerment and to working with clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTI clients, survivors of trauma, and other vulnerable populations.
  • Arabic fluency required, native speaker level preferred.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Google Suite.

Job-related Requirements

  • The position is based in Lebanon.
  • This position may require travel to other IRAP locations, including but not limited to Amman, Berlin, and the US.
  • This position requires office availability consistent with IRAP Lebanon hybrid work policy.
  • Authorization to work in Lebanon is required (Lebanese national or legal resident).
