About the role

The Automation Engineer plays a critical role in improving the efficiency, scalability, and quality of IT Services through the design and delivery of automation solutions. This role focuses on identifying manual or repetitive processes across ITS and customer environments and converting them into reliable, secure, and well-governed automated workflows.

The Automation Engineer works across ITSM, CIPP, RMM, cloud platforms, and AI-enabled tools to reduce operational overhead, improve customer experience, and enable ITS staff to focus on higher-value, human-centred work. The role combines strong technical automation capability with stakeholder engagement, analytical thinking, and a security-first mindset

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Automate operational processes, service requests, reporting, and system tasks using scripting and workflow tools.
  • Identify opportunities to replace manual, error-prone processes with scalable automation solutions.
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain automation workflows across ConnectWise RPA and PSA, ITSM, CIPP, and RMM or similar platforms.
    Ensure automation solutions are robust, documented, monitored, and supportable.
  • Automate routine maintenance and management tasks to improve operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, and ensure consistent, reliable service delivery.
  • Identify and deploy AI-based automation opportunities, including AI-assisted ticketing and service workflows.
  • Support LLM operations, including prompt design, tuning, and training using knowledge bases and SOPs.
  • Work with ITS teams to safely integrate AI capabilities into operational processes with appropriate guardrails.
  • Analyse incidents, service requests, and operational workflows to identify root causes and automation opportunities.
  • Maintain clear documentation for automated processes, known issues, and remediation steps.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of ITS services, standards, and delivery practices.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends in RPA, service automation, and ITSM best practices.
  • Facilitate workshops with internal teams to identify and prioritise automation opportunities.
  • Engage with customers to identify AI and automation use cases and support knowledge transfer for deployed solutions.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic advice on automation approaches, benefits, and limitations.
  • Apply a strong security mindset to all automation solutions.
  • Ensure automations align with Australian security standards (e.g. ASD Essential Eight) and Infoxchange security practices.
  • Identify risks introduced by automation and work with stakeholders to implement appropriate controls.
  • troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Assist in resolving complex technical issues related to automated systems and workflows.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for automation within ITS.

About you:

To succeed in this role at Infoxchange, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience in automation engineering within IT services or managed services environments.
  • Strong scripting capability using PowerShell and/or Python.
  • Experience working with ITSM and RMM platforms and integrating systems via APIs or workflows.
  • Practical experience with AI-enabled automation and/or LLM-based tools is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, practical outcomes for stakeholders.
  • Experience working across multiple teams and balancing competing priorities.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
