Established with a vision to bridge the digital divide and foster digital literacy among Indigenous peoples, the IFA has rapidly grown into a leading force in advocating for digital inclusion and cultural resilience. At its core, the IFA is committed to creating and nurturing spaces where Indigenous knowledge, languages, and traditions are celebrated and interwoven with modern technological advancements. This unique approach not only enhances access to digital tools and resources but also ensures that these advancements are aligned with the values and needs of Indigenous communities.
Mission:
The Indigenous Friends Association (IFA) is committed to bridging the gap between traditional Indigenous practices and modern technology, ensuring that Indigenous communities can thrive in the digital age. Our mission is to cultivate opportunities to advance digital pathways rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, driving positive change for generations.
Vision:
Our vision is for Indigenous peoples to leverage technology to amplify their world views, tech equity, and digital sovereignty.
Work Environment and DEI Commitment:
At IFA, we offer a dynamic and supportive work environment where creativity and initiative are encouraged. Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and beyond+ ensures that all team members, including women, People of Color, 2SLGBTQ+ peoples, people with disabilities, and religious minorities, feel respected, valued, and fully integrated into our community. We actively work to prevent feelings of disrespect, exclusion, or isolation, fostering an atmosphere where everyone can grow within the company. Our team is diverse, inclusive, and driven by a shared commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of Indigenous peoples. We value each team member’s contributions and foster a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and mutual respect. Joining IFA means being part of an organization that is not only focused on technological innovation but also deeply invested in cultural respect and community development. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about using their skills to contribute to a socially just and technologically inclusive world.
IFA's work encompasses a wide range of programs and initiatives, each designed to address specific challenges faced by Indigenous peoples in the digital era. From the INDIGItech and INDIGIgital programs, which focus on equipping Indigenous youth with critical tech skills and digital literacy, to the development of culturally relevant educational content, IFA is at the forefront of creating meaningful and sustainable change. We have also launched iConnectED, a comprehensive platform initially designed to facilitate access to educational content through social messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, particularly in remote areas with limited internet. The platform’s scope has since broadened to include mentorship and employment opportunities, aiming to enhance the reach and effectiveness of IFA’s mission as we finalize its strategy and development roadmap. The organization's commitment to research and advocacy further strengthens its impact with initiatives aimed at promoting Indigenous data sovereignty and environmental stewardship.
