The NCCR CLIM+ is a new National Center of Competence in Research that is establishing the first fully interdisciplinary, Switzerland-wide climate research community that tackles pressing issues related to climate extremes such as heatwaves, floods, heavy rainfalls, droughts, wildfires, and further compound events. It will thereby interact with stakeholders ranging from public health to finance, agriculture, and water management. tp produce actionable climate solution pathways related to adaptation and mitigation, forming a new transdisciplinary nexus between science, society, practice, and politics.
Project background
NCCR CLIM+ is led by ETH Zurich and the University of Bern, and includes 20 partner institutions across Switzerland. At ETH Zurich, NCCR CLIM+ is led by Prof. Sonia I. Seneviratne and Prof. David N. Bresch, with a total involvement of 17 professors and research groups from 8 departments. The other leading house is the University of Bern (co-director: Prof. Karin Ingold; deputy co-director: Prof. Olivia Romppainen-Martius). In total, the NCCR CLIM+ has 57 project partners from a range of institutions from Switzerland. The first phase of NCCR CLIM+ is planned until April 30, 2030, with a possible extension for an additional 4–8 years (up to 12 years in total). NCCR CLIM+ will also lead the development of a newly founded long-term Center for Climate Extremes and Resilience in Swiss Society (CERESS).

Job description
The Financial and administrative officer position is part of the NCCR CLIM+ Management Center, which is headed by an Executive manager. The Management Center also includes a Communications Officer, as well as Technical and Scientific officers from the NCCR CLIM+. The main responsibilities of the NCCR CLIM+ Financial and administrative officer will be as follows:
- Establishment of the NCCR CLIM+ Management Center at ETH Zurich in collaboration with the Executive Manager, as well as Prof. Sonia I. Seneviratne and Prof. David N. Bresch
- Budget management and accounting of NCCR CLIM+, including distribution and financial controlling of SNSF funds allocated to the principal investigators of NCCR CLIM+
- Budget management and accounting of ETH Zurich funding within NCCR CLIM+, including financial controlling
- Financial reports for SNSF and ETH Zurich
- Financial, human resources, and general administration of the Management Center
- Timely execution of all activities and services in accordance with the SNSF' and ETH Zurich’s guidelines and process requirements
- Correspondence and communication with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), ETH Zurich Administration, and NCCR CLIM+ PIs on financial and administrative matters
- Co-organization of site visits, conferences, workshops, reports, and proposals in collaboration with NCCR CLIM+ Executive Manager, as well as Prof. Sonia I. Seneviratne and Prof. David N. Bresch
Profile
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in finance management and budget controlling
- High degree of autonomy
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
- Excellent command of German (written and spoken)
- Expertise and experience in administrative management (particularly finance and human resources)
- Expertise and experience in event management and reporting
- Solid computer skills (office, internet, budget accounting); ability to use programs and applications to solve complex problems and tasks quickly and independently
- Efficient and precise work style
- Sense of responsibility, quick learner, ability to take initiative, and organizational skills
- Interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to work under pressure
- Experience with university administrative processes is a plus
- Experience in the administration of interdisciplinary research projects is a plus
