Project background
The Biomedical Informatics Platform (BMIP) is a central initiative of The LOOP Zurich, enabling data-driven biomedical research across Zurich’s university hospitals, the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich.
It provides secure infrastructure for integrating and harmonizing clinical data for research, ensuring interoperability with the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN).
BMIP builds on ETH Zurich’s Leonhard Med secure research-IT platform and supports the use of artificial intelligence to advance personalized medicine, all while maintaining strict compliance with data protection and patient privacy regulations.
Job description
As Product Manager BMIP, you will coordinate the productization, development, and long-term sustainability of the Biomedical Informatics Platform. You will work with interdisciplinary teams, define product roadmaps, and ensure smooth delivery of new features and releases.
- Coordinate the design and implementation of new BMIP features, focusing on AI-based analytics and integration of complex biomedical data types (e.g. DICOM, Parquet, clinical text).
- Define, negotiate, and maintain the BMIP product roadmap in close collaboration with stakeholders from ETH Zurich, UZH, university hospitals (USZ, Balgrist, PUK, Kispi), and industry partners (e.g. TuneInsight).
- Ensure timely software releases and structured development cycles through clear testing, validation, and support processes.
- Manage and grow the BMIP user and contributor community; oversee communication and engagement via internal and external channels.
- Plan and supervise maintenance, sustainability, and compliance activities.
Profile
- PhD or Master's degree in Machine Learning, Data Science, or Biomedical Informatics.
- 5+ years of experience in software product development and management, preferably in healthcare or life sciences.
- Proven ability to coordinate interdisciplinary teams across academia, hospitals, and industry.
- Excellent roadmap definition, release planning, and agile development skills.
- Strong communication and coordination abilities; fluent in English (German is a plus).
- Solid understanding of software engineering, data integration, and release management.
Desirable
- Experience with clinical data formats (e.g. DICOM, FHIR, SPHN Schema) and FAIR data principles.
- Understanding of AI-based analytics pipelines and biomedical data workflows.
- Demonstrated capacity to build communities and align diverse stakeholders.
