PhD Position in Soccer Analytics
100%, Zurich, fixed-term
The Algorithms and Visualization Group in the Social Networks Lab at ETH Zürich is developing network data science methods and applying them in a variety of domains. Our current research focus is on sports analytics and we seek to expand the team as soon as possible.
Job description
High-quality event and tracking data are changing the way association football (soccer) is analyzed and presented. We aspire to move to the forefront of this development by exploring innovative approaches.
You will be defining and extracting novel types of relations from event and tracking data. To analyze and interpret resulting spatio-temporal networks, you will identify characteristics and determine new descriptors. Their relevance for match analysis and tactical decision-making will be assessed in collaboration with professionals.
Profile
We are looking for an exceptional candidate with a curious, creative, and critical attitude who is enthusiastic about sports and data. We treat research as a team sport and expect the same of you.
You have a solid background in computer science, mathematics, or statistics and a strong interest in empirical analysis and interpretation. Areas of specialization can be, for instance, network analysis, computational geometry, or time-series analysis, but candidates with a degree in sports and a strong computational leaning are welcome as well.
