Communications Intern, Veterans for American Ideals - Summer 2026
This internship will support the Veterans for American Ideals team in drafting, developing, and disseminating written and visual materials including social media copy, graphics, video content, etc. The internship will also support other projects and work such as communicating with VFAI members, attending Congressional hearings and meetings on behalf of the program associate, and other responsibilities as assigned.
How will the intern make a difference in the Human Rights space through this internship?
The intern will gain experience in social media content development and communications strategy while gaining knowledge and experience of substantive issue areas related to VFAI’s work like democracy protection and immigration policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Intern responsibilities include assisting the team in drafting and posting weekly social media content
  • Intern will provide support to the team in drafting and disseminating communications to VFAI members
  • Intern will learn about specific issue areas by attending coalition calls, Congressional hearings, and webinars on relevant topics
  • Intern will learn how to effectively use Quorom to send external communications
  • Intern will have the opportunity to complete a final project like a long-form video project, blog, research report, etc.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines at once
  • Proficiency with Canva and or other graphic design software
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms like twitter/x, Instagram, etc.
  • Experience managing social media or other external communications in previous work experience, for a school organization, or other organization
  • Experience or strong interest in developing graphics and video content, ideally centered on human rights issue or other mission driven work
  • Commitment to human and civil rights

Compensation: Unpaid
