VFAI Communications and Engagement Intern - Spring 2026
The Outreach & Engagement Intern will assist Veterans for American Ideals (VFAI) in growing and strengthening its national network of veterans, allies, coalition partners, and public supporters. Working closely with the VFAI team, the intern will contribute to outreach campaigns, membership communications, coalition support, digital engagement, and public programming to ensure veteran and allied voices remain central to advancing American ideals of democracy, human rights, and civic participation.
How will the intern make a difference in the Human Rights space through this internship?
Through this experience, the intern will gain practical skills in community outreach, nonprofit communications, membership engagement, digital advocacy, and event coordination while learning how advocacy organizations mobilize and support their members to drive impact at both the local and national levels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with outreach campaigns to recruit and engage veterans, military family members, and allies
  • Draft and edit membership communications, including email newsletters, event invitations, and campaign updates
  • Support management and maintenance of CRM database, membership lists, and outreach records
  • Assist in developing digital content for public engagement, including social media and web updates
  • Support the launch and coordination of advocacy cohorts and member networks across the country
  • Join and report to leadership on substance of joint-organization coalition calls
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in community organizing, public engagement, or nonprofit communications
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, contact databases, or email platforms (preferred, but not required — training provided)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
  • Comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team and independently
  • Experience with event coordination, volunteer engagement, or grassroots campaigns (preferred)
Education: Undergraduate or graduate student - recent graduates will also be considered
Compensation: Unpaid
Start Date: January 20, 2026
End Date: April 24, 2026
Time Commitment: 15 hours/week
