How We Feel

We’re a tight-knit team of engineers, designers and scientists building experiences to help people on their journey with emotional wellbeing. We build intentionally crafted experiences that make self-discovery and shared discovery with friends and family delightful. How We Feel was Apple’s 2023 iPhone App of the Year, for Social Impact and a finalist for the Apple Design Award in 2024.

Co-founded by Ben Silbermann (Pinterest founder) and Marc Brackett (Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence), it combines science and creative technology, and has been downloaded by 2 million users so far. This year we're building the next generation of the app, combining intentional AI with cutting-edge design to make the experience more insightful and social for our fast-growing, passionate user base.

Mission

We believe technology can help people better understand themselves. Our nonprofit app has helped millions of people find the language for how they feel, science-backed methods to deal with their feelings and to spot patterns and trends in their emotional wellbeing. We’re now building the next generation of the app with cutting-edge design and AI, and you’ll help us build software that makes emotional wellbeing more accessible to everyone.

The Role

We’re looking for a lead iOS/AI Engineer who loves building intelligent systems that feel intuitive and genuinely helpful - someone who gets energy from shaping how AI shows up in the product as well as the feel of the product. You will work closely with the founders to build delightful consumer experiences end-to-end: from agentic workflows and data models to refined, responsive UI with thoughtful interaction details. Ideally you love transforming design into beautifully crafted features and get energy from bringing new ideas to life. You’ll ship AI experiences that help users reflect and spot patterns that drive their wellbeing, as well as social features that help users connect with each other.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as an iOS Engineer with a portfolio of released applications.

• Strong expertise in Swift and experience with UIKit and SwiftUI.

• Deep interest in or experience with Generative/Agentic AI (LLMs, RAG pipelines, AI copilots, or autonomous agent frameworks).

• Experience working in a startup or fast-paced product environment, ideally with early-stage product cycles.

In This Role You’ll

• Build iteratively and collaboratively to ship new features that delight users and shape the product

• Prototype quickly while maintaining a high bar for craft, usability, and code quality.

• Build and maintain high-quality, reliable and scalable iOS applications using Swift, including optimizing app performance, stability, and responsiveness, managing the app lifecycle, including testing, deployment, and release on the App Store.

• Design and implement agentic workflows that combine time-series, relational, and unstructured data with LLMs to generate actionable insights and recommendations.

• Establish best practices for deploying, evaluating, and monitoring AI-powered features in a production environment. Stay ahead of rapidly evolving LLM, RAG, and agentic architectures, and translate the most pragmatic advances into production.

• Help shape the engineering culture of a small but fast-moving team.
