Position Interview: SLI Intern
Hopelab's 2026-2028 strategy includes a focus on systems change and an evolution of our learning and measurement plan. The Strategy, Learning, Impact (SLI) Intern will work alongside the team and external partners to help Hopelab monitor and measure change at a systems level. The intern will support the organization by helping to collect, organize, analyze, interpret and visualize data so that we can better understand progress toward our goals and make thoughtful, data-informed decisions about our strategic priorities. They will also provide project management and learning support for the SLI team.
This role is designed for a graduate student or recent graduate of a masters/PhD program who enjoys working with data, synthesizing insights, and supporting collaborative learning across teams.
Key responsibilities

Data analysis and visualization

  • Assist with collecting, cleaning, organizing, and analyzing data from multiple sources (e.g., program data, landscape/environmental scans, publicly available surveys and reports).
  • Create clear, audience-appropriate visualizations (e.g., charts, dashboards, slide visuals) that help communicate patterns in system-level indicators and impact data.
  • Help translate data into concise narratives and “so what?” takeaways that can inform program, partnership, and strategy decisions.

Project management & learning support

  • Support agenda setting, note-taking, and follow-up for internal strategic learning meetings (e.g., staff sensemaking sessions, portfolio reviews, and retreats).
  • Prepare and curate meeting materials (slides, dashboards, summaries, documents) that help staff and partners make sense of data and insights.
  • Coordinate logistics and materials for sense-making sessions with partners and for SLI-related meetings, including capturing key decisions and action items.

Synthesis and communication

  • Partner with the functional leads and external evaluation consultants across Hopelab, helping feed their program data into org-wide evaluation processes.
  • Parter with SLI to design collaborative systems learning and measurement opportunities for the broader youth mental health eco-system.
  • Build strong working relationships characterized by listening, responsiveness, and a collaborative problem-solving orientation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with staff at different levels of the organization and with external partners.

Supervision and structure

  • Work within a dual-supervisor model during the internship period (e.g., being supervised by the Director of Learning & Impact as well as the Director of Strategy for different portions of the internship)
  • Proactively seeking clarity on priorities and communicating progress and needs.

Desired qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a graduate program (e.g., public health, social work, psychology, education, data science, public policy, or related field), or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with data collection, cleaning, and analysis (quantitative and/or qualitative).
  • Ability to create clear, compelling visualizations and to communicate findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing meetings and working sessions (e.g., agenda setting, note taking, tracking follow-ups).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, follow through on details, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, openness to feedback, and an orientation toward shared problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to “get things done” in a structured and reliable way, including delivering concrete outputs such as reports, presentations, or analyses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social good, mental health, and/or equity, particularly in relation to Black, Brown, and Queer young people.
  • Interest in working in ways that center equity and learning.
Term
This is a part-time internship (20 hours per week) with the opportunity to work from anywhere in the USA remotely.
