GreatSchools is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team. This is a fully remote position requiring travel several times a year to the Bay Area. Reporting to the Senior Director, Operations and Compliance, the Operations Manager will work closely with the entire Operations team to support critical areas of our core business functions, including:, operations, human resources, communications and executive support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations and Human Resources:
At the direction of the Sr. Director, Operations and Compliance and the Finance and Operations teams, this position will:
- Support organizational hiring practices to ensure consistency in the recruitment and hiring process. This includes, managing job postings, resume screening, interview scheduling and ensuring consistent staff onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Support operations and finance leads in the administration of compensation programs, including annual employee reviews, salary reviews, bonuses, and benefits packages. Conduct market research, as assigned, to ensure competitive compensation and benefits.
- Communicate HR policies and procedures to staff. Serve as the primary point of contact for staff for benefit and HR policy related questions.
- Monitor human resources info-box to respond to questions and identify submissions for escalation to management.
- Track and analyze HR metrics, such as turnover, employee engagement, and training effectiveness. Prepare HR reports for management.
- Coordinate staff training sessions and support the development of training topics and materials.
- Oversee annual staff evaluation process and report on evaluation findings and trends for management.
- Implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, morale, and job satisfaction.
- Support the planning and execution of annual staff retreat, including serving as the front-facing support person for staff.
- Manage company’s shared workspace in Oakland, California with the ability to travel to the Bay Area several times a year.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Executive Support:
In collaboration with the Operations team, this position will:
- Support the scheduling of Board of Directors meetings and Board committee meetings.
- Coordinate logistics for Board meetings, including providing day-of event support.
- Assist in the preparation of Board meeting materials and communications. Send Board related communications at the direction of the Director of Communications & Corporate Affairs.
- Manage the CEO’s calendar for the coordination of external meetings, as needed.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Communications:
In collaboration with the Director of Communications & Corporate Affairs, this position will:
- Assist in drafting and/or editing communications collateral, including press releases, newsletters, op-eds, web page updates, and social media copy.
- Update the GreatSchools Media Room as needed, adding recent press coverage and press releases.
- Support the execution of internal and external communication strategies to enhance brand visibility and reputation, satisfy grant deliverables, and ensure consistent and engaging internal messaging.
- Monitor education media coverage to identify emerging communications opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure messaging discipline across all channels.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or relevant certifications (e.g. SHRM, PMP) preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in operations, human resources or communications.
- Excellent writing skills for varied audiences (leadership, org-wide, external stakeholders).
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a remote environment as part of a cross-functional team.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate ideas and information effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and navigate deadlines and responsibilities for multiple projects in collaboration with multiple team members.
- Ability to work independently with a willingness to take initiative and lead projects with minimal supervision.
- High degree of professional maturity with the ability to exercise sound judgment and operate with confidentiality and discretion.
- Experience with start-up, early-stage company, non-profit, and/or fast-growing company strongly preferred.
- Must be highly organized, solution-oriented and willing to roll up sleeves to get the job done.
- Knowledge of Google Applications (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.) and Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

LOCATION
- Anywhere in the United States. Candidates residing in California, Oregon, or Washington are strongly preferred..
- Travel up to 3 to 4 times annually primarily to the San Francisco Bay Area.
SALARY & BENEFITS
- Base compensation for this role ranges from $70,000 to $90,000 for candidates residing in the Bay Area; salaries are dependent upon candidate location and experience.
